Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 12]

I've not seen an XJ6 with a timber roof before!

There's something slightly off about that interior (apart from the roof beams), not sure if I like. It's not the normal Sport trim colour.

But I wood (sic) have to get it stained to match the timber on the doors...
If you're feeling brave or foolish...

At the very least it needs a good going over with a polisher to remove the signwriting residue, but an XJ12 for £1750? What could possibly go wrong?

Thanks for this - I had considered one of these, but all the reviews had put me off, especially them being very sensitive to matching tyres which could cause very expensive failures.ETA - why not make it a reader's car thread?

I think mini reviews on this thread would be great rather than putting them out to the 'general population'. I enjoyed Derin's X3 review, it was very informative, might have a crack at one myself if it's something that people want to see here.ETA - why not make it a reader's car thread?

I think so too. I only really read/contribute to this thread on the whole internet, and I reckon there are plenty of wise and articulate regulars who could post an informative and entertaining "long term test" article on individual cars that we all admire or covet. At best it could provide valuable and in depth information as to the pros and pitfalls of owning particular marques or models. At the very least it's a good bit of bedtime reading.
I'm not in the market for an X3, but enjoyed reading Derin's impressions, and may look more closely in the future having had some informed (real world) information rather than the implanted Clarkson-esque "nah, it's crap" reviews that tends to stick in the mind and blight an otherwise half decent car.
Have a go Motorrad, I'd like to see it.

I have always loved this thread and so it gives me great pleasure to introduce a barge that not only gives me the horn but one that i have purchased and got ready for an MOT - this is happening tomorrow
She's spent all her life in Sweden since March 1973 and cost me 4 1/2 from a guy who brought it over from Holland a few months back. This will be my daily for the next year or so.
Fingers crossed!

HORN TOOTED! What a machine! She's spent all her life in Sweden since March 1973 and cost me 4 1/2 from a guy who brought it over from Holland a few months back. This will be my daily for the next year or so.

I hasten to add that I am a no-smoking teetotaller.
And this is a BMW E23? Or?
Appreciation for the thread, 12months ago I didn’t know a W124 from a leaper.
Whilst it wasn't as pretty as the Coupe, it was actually a nicer car to drive!
Good luck!
This is actually my second '72 BMW but this one was bought specifically for European road trips with the secondary duty of a commuter wagon. It is only the pony 2500 motor, which is still on carbs, but I have all the parts from a later, motronic E23 such that if the motor is a good'un I will get more reliability and economy than the twin Zenith will offer. First trip for her is Le Mans Classic later this year and then, if she proves herself, she's going to Provence in the Autumn.
In terms of history I don't have a great deal more than I have already said in that she is as swedish as the muppet chef. Or should that be meatballs? It has a funny aftermarket immersion heater fitted to the block so I guess that's a good indicator of the cold climate that she's seen. Another indicator is the ~80k km on the clock - I have heard the swedes look after their motors and I imagine an old girl such as this one won't have been used that much.
In terms of other pics I only really have the following, but I will be sure to get more once she's through the MOT. Btw what is an RR?
Boot larges enough for several corpses:
Nifty bond-esque numberplate conceals petrol filler cap:
Door bottoms incredibly solid:
Rear seats are incredibly unworn and responded amazingly to a bit of Autoglym lovin:
