If it drives well it could be a reasonable purchase - being a facelift it'll be the more troublesome V6 rather than straight-6 diesel.for £3k

The thing that puts me off is that it's a "Sport" with big wheels, so although it looks good the ride is probably quite fidgety. It's also got none of the interesting options - electric/heated/cooled/memory/dynamic seats, airmatic, digi climate.
The wheels will fetch a pretty penny, I'd be tempted to put some of the 16" wheels on it with bigger tyres, flog those and use it until it breaks.

Here's my attempt.
The car in question is a Mercedes C219 CLS 500 from 2008 with 116K miles on it and a complete service history. I found out about it from here as it was being sold by thread user and first class chap J4CKO at a very keen price over on MBClub UK. The car was also listed on ebay and when the price was dropped to top thread budget I couldn't resist buying it sight unseen. The car was exactly as described, front suspension squeak, faulty nearside exterior mirror and some minor trim scuffs being the only faults. Otherwise a very clean facelift car with the later 5.5 engine and little in the way of options save heated seats and parktronic. The colour scheme could most kindly be described as 'conservative' being silver with grey 'leather' seats.
Excellent smoker barge there. I will be needing something with more space than the SL soon, my eldest is starting to look like a human pretzel in the back seats when we go out, and complains too much when we put her in the boot ! Time for a change. The C219 CLS certainly catches the eye.The car in question is a Mercedes C219 CLS 500 from 2008 with 116K miles on it and a complete service history. edit to add: If it's close enough for anyone on the thread Mick's garage in Kirkby Lonsdale offers a great breadth of knowledge and trustworthy service, I can't recommend the place highly enough.

Nice work Motorrad, useful post. I like the CLS but am not sure I know enough about them to take the plunge.
I rationalised it as nothing more than a late W211 in a posh frock for less money. Other than the frameless doors there are a lot of similarities. My main worry was the airmatic system which had been fettled prior to my ownership. Worst comes to the worst and it's 800 quid to replace the front or rear suspension as it's recommended to change them in pairs. So far so good though as it works perfectly and air suspension really is a joy.
No SBS to worry about on these later models and they look more modern to my eye albeit less graceful than the original cars.

I'm often in Lancaster and Barrow, I can't recommend Mick highly enough. He was formerly at Lime Tree Garage in Halton, he's proven to be a very honest and knowledgeable bloke. Well worth the trip over there for you I reckon.55palfers said:
My 25 year old W124 E36 passed its MOT today with no advisories.
Presently having service and new plugs, leads, dizzy, etc. Pick her up tomorrow.
Just felt I needed to share. As you were.
E36 is surely not a barge! Pix/etc, please Presently having service and new plugs, leads, dizzy, etc. Pick her up tomorrow.

I ummed and arred about an E36 coupe a few years ago - or swapping a 3.6 engine into a 2.6 190E. On the latter, I saw the grief the poor guy on the 190 forum went through and went to have a lie down until the idea passed.
