On the face of it, not a great start: diesel, boring silver, short MOT and an air freshener. Notwithstanding these setbacks, I really like that.

I'm about to 'need' (well, you know ...) an additional car to facilitate me working on the continent. The devil's fuel probably makes sense, and it'll have to move fast and provide toys and comfort. I reckon I could do a lot worse than that, although 3 grand feels a little rich doesn't it?

On the other hand, tax-free fuel perhaps demands something more petrol-y and cylinder-y?
Would this continental petrol wafter fit your bill, CDG?

Couple of thread favourites not too far from me.

Needs de-tatting, and no hard top, but otherwise honest enough.

And an S55. Anyone got the balls for it?

Slightly off topic conversation... what are your barge unscratched itches?

I have done a BMW (well old) 7, an Audi A8, an XJ (BOOM!) now the Lexus LS400, but surprisingly given I’m a merc fan, never an S-Class. At some point I will have to get that w126 or 600 twin turbo (slightly at opposite ends in speed and tech terms!).

My other itch is something Swedish or French.

What barge 1-5 do you feel you need to own at some point in the future?

Looks fine - it would all be about how the owner seems on the phone for me! Another for zoner (with some haggling?)

For me it's the thread titans. 124, E38, some form of S-class, an XJ.

I'd love a Citroen XM Estate

What a great ad: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C930931

I would feel like I was doing weddings though.

Now you've provided the cloud condensation nucleus for an argument in the shape of that diagram, all hell will break loose.

(there's no way Shorpe isn't Northern.)
Very true! hehe

I also think Shorpe is Northern - and the 'Northern line' is definitely drawn too far North in the West too. Cheshire identifies itself as in the North - and places such a Crewe are certainly in the North.

The line for me would be drawn somewhere between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent. Stoke is in the Midlands - but even so it feels like the North to me, so a bit of a hybrid in some ways! They have a strong local 'Potteries' identity there.
As a Stoke lad myself, I'd be minded to agree.

Indeed, Stuart Maconie basically concludes the North starts at Crewe in his book "Pies and Prejudice" - an excellent read.

Oh yes! Or a C6. The petrol v6. I would imagine they are incredibly hard to find.

I’m calling it for one of mine being knocked off right now. Purchase incoming!

As you all know, I keep wittering on about wanting an SL. I was all setup to be ‘phone bidding (unseen) on this, on Friday: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C971233

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-500sl-Con...

But then the ebay one mentioned earlier today popped up yesterday in my saved searches, and Liverpool isn’t that far from me...
Some of you may recognise the big blue thing lurking in the background too.

It’s got 4 mismatched cheapo tyres, the aerial doesn’t work, and each front arch has some slight blistering, but nothing major. & the bumper scuff mentioned in the ad. It’s not perfect, sure, but I can fettle it gradually, the plan was always to get a gingercator car for preference, so I’m quite happy now. Should be picking up Tues. (save on rfl) wink

Will let you all know how it goes of course!

edit: Oh, and the spoiler will probably go at some stage.

Also... If the above hadn’t happened, I was considering a trip to Glasgow. I know the Sacco panels are wrong, but it otherwise feels ‘right’ to a non-beard like me. (much learning to do I have). Thoughts?

I do think the W210 design is ageing particularly well.

The rear styling looks like a well-executed modernisation of the W126 and better IMHO than any subsequent Mercedes saloon.

Likewise the interior is a slightly more modern twist on the W124 / 126 style.

It’s a shame so many of them are rotten.

Fantastic. Get it out on a sunny day with the roof down and it will all make sense!

The spoiler does need to go though...

I just don’t get on with the frog headlights... the same with the clk. The interior is good, and the NVH miles ahead of old mercs though.

Jeep Wagoneer.
R129
Rover P5 coupe
Anything built in Crewe before 2003.

May have missed the 1-5 boat on some or all of these.

I should add a 4x4 barge to the list. Bound to end in complete disaster and regret for me.

Range Rover/Jeep Grand Cherokee/M55 AMG. Etc.
