Ad's a little sparse and double magic trees are a concern.

Does the chap in the rear seats come with it?
I guess that depends on what you plan on doing with it.

Well I was going to say, there is only so much space in the boot.

Who wants to dig themselves right.

This was “suggested” by eBay in the first C124 advert. Not checked MOT history but looks like a good price:

Other than a Volvo S80 V8, I don't think there's a better way of hiding a V8... For some reason I just can't bring myself to buy an Audi. I can't buy Rover or Vauxhall either.

That said, I like the look of this A8 in principle too:

For not much more outlay than a good LS430 that seems like a lot of barge.
Just how borkish are these, it seems an awful lot of car for the money and a rather rare sight In comparison to the tired S-Class and gansta’ 7 series I see around N.Wales.

Any particular issues?

In non barge news, I bought a freelander 1 (TD4) last week to help with house renovations, it does 40mpg, witchcraft.

In mini barge news, I’m currently winning a splendid green 190e (2.0) on the ‘bay.

Lovely colour combination (yes really!). I am only put off by the memories of the red one I went to look at years ago which turned out to be an utter dog. Rusty everywhere, every interior panel damaged, and a Wickes switch for then electrics on the dash. Terrible!

It really, really does look like an awful lot of potential heartache car for the money. Stick a cheap private plate on and the neighbours would think you'd won the lottery.

XF in budget is fab, so is the E500, and that A6! Great finds chaps!

You can keep the barried coupes though.

And at £6,250 he can carry on sniffing the magic trees. smile

MOT history pretty good - tyres and brake pipes pop up now and again and some wheel damage years ago. I like the early wheels and could live with the colour.

I was surpised to see the price begin with a '3'. Are they really ruinous though? It looks as a great way to waft about anonymously.

I looked at the that one (online) a couple of times during my hunt but, aside from being a long way from Dorset, I am not overly convinced with the colour.

I know a threadist (apologies I've forgotten who) had a devil of a time sorting one out after a drain on it got filled with leaves and the interior flooded. There's a box of electronics under the passenger seat (in classic Audi style) which is vulnerable to this.

Riley Blue was seduced into one, albeit a long-hankered-after car, from a nice C124 that we saw at a mini-Loser-fest in the margins of a PH Sunday Service. (I think it was r129sl's estate at MB World that was the real draw).

He had a major problem with flooding of the electrics that took a long time to sort. I think all is OK now though. Might be worth messaging him if anyone's serious about it.

So that S600 looks seriously tempting.

I went to see that W210 E55 AMG - it was a sound as so far as all the toys work, engine pulled well, and gearbox seemed ok (no knocks etc)

My mate couldn’t cope with the rust. As the seller stated, it was on all arches and all door bottoms and it wasn’t small bubbles either!!

So, for a budget of around 4K what’s the fastest barge that can be purchased?

Looking for a German luxo barge - nothing from
VW / AUDI please...

AMG / M - Yes please!

X308 XJR is probably the quickest, but you'll have to watch for rust again.

As addendum to my musings on the Outlander PHEV, the wife has just provided the answer to a question nobody should ever need to ask,

Namely, if i drove it into our house, which would come off worse?

It's quite understandable, you almost can’t see the house in the photos hehe

On a serious note, it does highlight ine downside of even a lumping great ev like this, she was manouevring the car and the high amount of torque available with a tiny prod of the pedal can make fine adjustments for the inexperienced a bit of a challenge.

That said, shes had three cars since passing her test, the first she crashed into a pile of breeze blocks in the courtyard, the second she crashed into scaffolding on the house, the third...see above.

The car is bleating about EV service and ACC service although the fluid is only screenwash as far as I can see.

Im going to put the RX400 on hold and go back to lurking on here, given her propensity to crash things, I think a company car on balance will be the cheaper bet. frown

Maybe she can have a small hatchback and I’ll have an xj scratchchin

Seems like a sensible answer! Buy a simple, cheap hatchback that'll be easier to repair when rammed into masonry, you can have a good wafter. smile
