Not wanting to denigrate the considerable effort you've been to but I think you may have missed one. Namely, my X350 on 12/1. It has been utterly fantastic; quiet, comfortable, fast enough and averaging 29mpg (over 6,000 miles or so). Even better, my wife adores it! The only downside, so far, has been its ability to attract lowlifes (lowlives?), one of whom unsuccessfully tried to break-in, leaving a bent (expensive) door-to-window trim and another who dented the passenger door somehow.
Not sure if you’ve already bought the parts, but when similar lowlifes broke into my X350, I found the window glass plus trim on eBay for £40. Jaguar wanted about £450 IIRC.

Inappropriate wheels, and it’s currently heading back from the moon.

But pictures 6 and 7 will help you forgive it anything and everything.

Quite. That interior is delicious.
Love the interior. Had a similar colour interior in my '87 E28 528i and thought it was amazing.

Sadly the exterior currently looks horrific sporting those wheels.

nothing a set of 15 holes couldn't fix, right?
That boot looks good for at least four bodies

Working CLK 430 with nearly a years MOT for £500

V8 for 1/10 of the budget. Doesn’t look too bad bar the roof which can just stay up.

This is a huge bargain surely? MOT history isn't brilliant but not awful.

If I had the spare cash to insure it I'd be straight on this.
That's a very tempting way to listen to a v8

My current slightly illogical desire is for a W210, preferably a petrol V8 estate (like that lovely green E430 a few pages back), but I don't think I'd mind the straight 6 diesel either as it seems like it'd suit the car fairly well (plus I've never owned a diesel car before). Does anyone have any personal experience/things to watch out for? These 2 below are currently on my radar, rattling around at the bottom end of thread budget.

Part 2 of Harry's trip to the artic in his £4k Rolls Royce. Just brilliant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8kLE9vVlJ0
I watched both parts this morning, a fantastic watch! Makes me want to do something similar in a shady eBay purchased barge. I imagine that trip was financially ruinous though, not just with the fuel, but also Norway's rather expensive toll roads and ferries!
Got no experience of the V8 engine George, but I can tell you the straight 6 diesel (apart from the occasional injector seal leak) is, imho, one of the best oil burners ever put in a car. It's smooth, quiet, and with a bit of restraint will return 50+ mpg, and that's in my W220, which is obviously a bit heavier than an E class. Despite the fact it only knocks out just over 200hp, it also generates 500nm of torque, which makes progress quite rapid when needed.
There are firms around who will remap these to give another 40/50hp and an extra 100nm, if you want some more oomph.

Saw what appeared to be a nice looking Jag XJS V12 for sale at the Enfield Motoring Pageant.

Finished in a grey colour and sporting an F registration on matching Grange Jaguar plates front and back. It had 90k miles with history and bills. Bodywork looked in nice co diction with no visible rust. The interior also looked good apart from a little wear on the driver’s seat bolster.

Was up for £6,500 over thread budget but there may be some haggle room in there I am not in the market so don’t know the current going price. It seemed reasonably priced to me.

There was also Avery, very light green Jag S Type SE with 3.0 engine. One owner, 70k miles up for £1,300 that went pretty quickly.

Same - I liked looking at it more than driving it. The E320 Coupé I had prior to it was a better drivers car.

This looks rather nice in black. Shame it's only a 280, but then it is under £2k. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

That's a pretty big tear/generally worn drivers seat for a 107k mile Merc W140.

Thanks. I've not sorted either bit of damage out yet, I have noticed that the prices of trim parts can vary wildly so it's good to know that they do turn up at reasonable prices.

Whose feeling daring?

560 sec with brown interior in JRG,

Just under 2 days left to go and under £1.2k at the moment, kept in a garage for most of the last 15 years apparently.

It does unfortunately have chrome wheel arch covers all round though.

Love the interior, less keen on the blue smoke and chrome rust covers

A design that BMW just got right.

I remember a decade or so ago calling in to a local cab firm late at night following a summer pub session in Kew.

They clearly recognised barge-appreciating chaps as the owner was dispatched around the corner to get his 728 sport. The best £20 cash I have spent getting back into central London.

£3.5k to fully sort the paint, I just have no idea about the rest. Very interesting at that price though...
