V8 for 1/10 of the budget. Doesn’t look too bad bar the roof which can just stay up.

Who wouldn't love a V8 at this money? Pics even look okay. V8 for 1/10 of the budget. Doesn’t look too bad bar the roof which can just stay up.

But I cannot even begin to imagine or describe the horrors that may be hidden here.
Come on. Under a grand, in London, from a 'dealer'. With that description?
Get tae.

The Camry that is #1 son's pride and joy also passed it's first year without any blemishes on the record, and continues to be a waft-o-matic method of transport that remains almost 100% anonymous. Even in metallic dark red.
As you were.
I’d quite like a mid-noughties Camry to painlessly smoke around in, and would hazard a guess that I’m the one and only theadist that does.As you were.

It is still there and is indeed a lovely thing. Well out of budget though!ETA - it was enquiring about that car that ultimately led to buying the Lexus.

I sorta kinda think it would a nice completely anonymous comfy reliable old sofa of a thing to have, but I'd want a V6 slusher. Couple for sale in the Midlands at the moment.
I quite like the idea of highly anonymous daily transport.

It'd be interesting to try the Lexus version of the Camry, I think it's called ES300?I quite like the idea of highly anonymous daily transport.

I don't think they were ever offered in Europe though
I said interesting, but that's probably not the right word. "Informative", perhaps. Or maybe not even that.
I've dug myself a strange hole here

Yep. Had a few as rentals in the US. Capable, but bland. Instantly forgettable.I don't think they were ever offered in Europe though

The equivalent Maxima looked good to my eyes & could have the same 3.5v6 in the 350z & the Murano. Still wasn’t anything to write home about, but was better than the ES.

I really want an older Maxima with the 3.5 V6, ideally in silver or beige with dents on every panel. You see quite a few of them where I live and they move ridiculously quickly for such an old, dull looking car.The equivalent Maxima looked good to my eyes & could have the same 3.5v6 in the 350z & the Murano. I was wondering if the car came with a full tank. .Some great barging chatter here, very much like that Daimler. A pal of my Father's used to have one - they took it round the track at Anglouemme on one of their weekends away, and the chassis flex was so bad that at the first corner both the doors flopped open.
I have the same engine in a W211, a W210 will be the earlier six (OM606 or the rarer OM613) so slightly different.
FWIW I've managed 50mpg on the computer once, resetting the trip after a hot start and pottering down congested A-roads at 50mph.
I usually get 40ish on normal use (including using the performance) and 43-45 on a 70-80mph cruise run. Fantastic engine though, and suits the character of the car well being very torquey throughout the rev range, smooth due to being a straight-6, and still having a decent turn of pace when pushed.
I'd still have a V8 instead if mileage isn't high mind.

Thanks both
There’s a french hot hatch-shaped hole in my car ownership history, and a little Clio would fit the bill.

I fear mine may be for sale too soon for you, it's going up this week. Replied to your mail (apologies for the lateness, busy weekend). There’s a french hot hatch-shaped hole in my car ownership history, and a little Clio would fit the bill.

Got no experience of the V8 engine George, but I can tell you the straight 6 diesel (apart from the occasional injector seal leak) is, imho, one of the best oil burners ever put in a car. It's smooth, quiet, and with a bit of restraint will return 50+ mpg, and that's in my W220, which is obviously a bit heavier than an E class. Despite the fact it only knocks out just over 200hp, it also generates 500nm of torque, which makes progress quite rapid when needed.
There are firms around who will remap these to give another 40/50hp and an extra 100nm, if you want some more oomph.
Just what I wanted to hear (I think) I've never been a big fan of diesels, but it does seem like it'd suit a relaxing barge quite well, and I kinda feel like I should try at least one at some point. Good to hear they're solid engines! What are the symptoms of the injector seal leak? Bad starting I assume? 560 sec with brown interior in JRG,
Just under 2 days left to go and under £1.2k at the moment, kept in a garage for most of the last 15 years apparently.

It does unfortunately have chrome wheel arch covers all round though.
This sold for £3.8k, there is a 73,000 mile engine on ebay at £2250 as well. So £6k plus a bit of fitting time and a good refresh of the engine before you drop it in.560 sec with brown interior in JRG,

What happened to CDG?
Perhaps he dislikes the Lexus so has decided never to post again as punishment for our thread encouragement!
A series of unfortunate and darkly comic mishaps led to him mistaking Motorhub or the Keighley Trade Centre for the premises of MTSV, and he's now sat at the side of the M62 in a puddle of engine oil and tears?Perhaps he dislikes the Lexus so has decided never to post again as punishment for our thread encouragement!
Home with the car. The pic isn't a forecourt one as tradition dictates, but after a car fuel stop (lots of petrol, bit of a queue, lots of watchers so I bottled the photo) I then stopped a hundred or so miles later for more human needs at the services and had the chance to snap this.
More detailed assessment to follow but initial impressions are very positive, with a couple of quirks apparent. I'm a happy bargeist.
