In that case, here's a little treat to cheer him up - "1995 Exceptional Honda Legend mk2 For Sale", surely a little haggle would get it to a reasonable £2k - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C997973

MoT history tantalising. Could it really be 35k miles?

Roof light is lit up, never a great start. Wrong indicators, headlamp wiper arm cap missing, passenger sun visor broken, fairly base spec with 4 speed box and no air-con fitted. However, the interior condition overall is pretty good, engine bay clean enough, still has the spare tyre info label in place and the hyphen in 300SL-24 is still present and correct.

I have a hunch that the photos are taken on the edge of Hampstead Heath/Golders Green so it could have been a rich person's barely used plaything. £4.5k seems potentially bargainous.

Wow at that MOT history and stated mileage. It was the hyphen which attracted me.

Roof is bad, of course, indicators as a few hundred quid and who cares about air con when you have the sky!

I have looked online only at a few Motorhub cars, I always fancied something JDM, are they best avoided?

Home with the car. The pic isn't a forecourt one as tradition dictates, but after a car fuel stop (lots of petrol, bit of a queue, lots of watchers so I bottled the photo) I then stopped a hundred or so miles later for more human needs at the services and had the chance to snap this.

More detailed assessment to follow but initial impressions are very positive, with a couple of quirks apparent. I'm a happy bargeist.
Glad you made it home safe and sound and we look forward to hearing more about your new barge.

Excellent news! I look forward to a full report. Does it (do all 430s) have double glazing?

Polished up and without hazy headlights it looks pretty damn fine.

Good work. (apart from the lack of forecourt shot, very disappointing)

That colour is fantastic. Looks great in the sunshine. If it drives as good as it looks you have done well!

Yeah they do; does the 400? It is very quiet inside, and you are very well insulated from the outside world. There is a small amount of de-lamination on the driver's window - essentially a 'steamed-up' area of the window. It's not at all obvious once you've got used to it but it is there.

Ad says 85k miles. Clock swap? What's wrong with the roof; and is the roll bar activated? Ad says hard top included....

Some great barging chatter here, very much like that Daimler. A pal of my Father's used to have one - they took it round the track at Anglouemme on one of their weekends away, and the chassis flex was so bad that at the first corner both the doors flopped open.

Thanks both

There’s a french hot hatch-shaped hole in my car ownership history, and a little Clio would fit the bill.

I fear mine may be for sale too soon for you, it's going up this week. Replied to your mail (apologies for the lateness, busy weekend).

Got no experience of the V8 engine George, but I can tell you the straight 6 diesel (apart from the occasional injector seal leak) is, imho, one of the best oil burners ever put in a car. It's smooth, quiet, and with a bit of restraint will return 50+ mpg, and that's in my W220, which is obviously a bit heavier than an E class. Despite the fact it only knocks out just over 200hp, it also generates 500nm of torque, which makes progress quite rapid when needed.
There are firms around who will remap these to give another 40/50hp and an extra 100nm, if you want some more oomph.
Just what I wanted to hear (I think) smile I've never been a big fan of diesels, but it does seem like it'd suit a relaxing barge quite well, and I kinda feel like I should try at least one at some point. Good to hear they're solid engines! What are the symptoms of the injector seal leak? Bad starting I assume?
I have the same engine in a W211, a W210 will be the earlier six (OM606 or the rarer OM613) so slightly different.

FWIW I've managed 50mpg on the computer once, resetting the trip after a hot start and pottering down congested A-roads at 50mph.

I usually get 40ish on normal use (including using the performance) and 43-45 on a 70-80mph cruise run. Fantastic engine though, and suits the character of the car well being very torquey throughout the rev range, smooth due to being a straight-6, and still having a decent turn of pace when pushed.

I'd still have a V8 instead if mileage isn't high mind.
To be fair, Krikkit, I'd rather have a V8 as well, but I can wind up doing 1000 miles a week, and paying for most of the fuel myself, so until the Lottery comes up I'll have to stay on the dark side.

George, if you can hear a chuffing noise when the engine is running, it'll be combustion gases bypassing an injector. They have a copper seal that lets go occasionally, easy to fix if caught early, but the longer it's left the harder it may be to remove and replace. If you remove the plastic engine covers and find an injector surrounded by oily gunk then you've got the problem. Google some images and you'll see what I mean.

That's lovely. Great looking cars.
The first four feet is one of the best looking normal cars ever, IMO. Thereafter, disappointingly boring.

The coupe version was a super looking car.

I'd say both ends look fab, it's the bit in the middle that... the bit in the... middle... Zzzzz.

And agreed, the coupe was a smashing looking thing. One of my favourites as a youngster boxedin

This sold for £3.8k, there is a 73,000 mile engine on ebay at £2250 as well. So £6k plus a bit of fitting time and a good refresh of the engine before you drop it in.
(560 SEC - I thought I wouldn’t clog the thread with more photos)

Relisted this morning at £7k or best offer - I wonder what happened there!? Certainly, there’s no such thing as a cheap 560, either buying or repairing, and given that one’s history it’s no longer looking a bargain.

Wasn’t just me then, I loved them as a kid and youth, I remember being smitten by deep purple one (not unlike CdG’s new wheels) that I’d pass most days on my way to my part time job.

I won’t sully the thread with all pictures but for those not faint of heart, a rather poorly looking example of the breed is residing for £899 on the link below that could be restored if anyone was mad enough to sink money into the poor thing.
