Fantastic car but 75k? Really? Way too close to the Germans.
If I had 75k I'd buy that before an M5, E-whatever-Merc is current, Audi RS6...
Just appeals much more

But we all like different things

[quote=Gareth9702]And most future Holdens (including the new Insignia-based Commodore) will be Peugeot products not GM products given the PSA takeover of Opel.

More likely they will be re-badged Daewoos after the initial run off Insignias (which has been in the works for years), can't imagine Peugeot wanting to help GM with their failing product range in Australia

In as much as the current GM Holdens aren't going to be built anymore so anything new Holden badged will be a PSA Vauxhall/Opel.

EDIT - Unless GM kept Holden?
GM have kept Holden but Holden will only import cars produced by other manufacturers. For the short term that will be a mix of GM products (SUVs and pick-ups) and PSA (current Opel range). No-one outside Holden knows what the long-term plan is.

GM owns Holden. And I bet that after the current range of GM Opels go out of production, GM won’t continue buying cars from Opel to sell as Holdens

HSV wouldn't allow them to as they had a very limited run due to there not being very many LS9's left lying around.

Anyway, even I think 75k is a bit much, rather get the GTS and spend 5-10k to get 800+bhp. Makes for a very nice daily driver smile Oh yeah, put MPS4S on rather than the stty Contis, makes a massive difference for the better.

74k for a vauxhall is pretty extortionate. Dont get me wrong its cheaper than its rivals by some margin but it has a vauxhall badge. I'm a vauxhall guy through and through, they're in my blood but you'd have to be clinically insane to spend 74k on any vauxhall
It's not a Vauxhall.
yes Yupp, that's certainly my understanding of it.

It may have a Vauxhall badge on it but barely any of this car is/will be a Vauxhall. I can almost guarantee it.

GM dont own Opel so they will be very much going their own way

I very nearly bought a new VXR8 a little over a year ago , lot of car for £55k but dealer wanted £5k deposit and quoted "At least 12 months wait time"

Would've been a bit of an uphill struggle as the wife was not at all impressed and described it a "Fat Vectra"

Sad to see the end of the line though frown

Exactly my point. Beyond the current range of Opels that GM uses, GM will be unlikely to buy cars from Opel.

As such, GM currently uses a range of Opels that are based on GM platforms and other GM technology, but once they are phased out and Opel is integrated into Peugeot further, I believe that arrangement will cease. That is if it doesn’t end earlier

It depends would you consider 74k for a HSV Holden a good buy? Would that badge hold more cachet? I'm not saying you're wrong to say the above but what would it take for it to gain more credibility?

What 67 plate car would you buy for 74k instead?
Evora 400 please, and live with less practicality.

Alfa Quadrafoglio, if you need 4 doors would be my second Choice and £10k cheaper

Sorry but that is utter nonsense. Unless you feel this way about all other Vauxhall badged cars.

GM owned Vauxhall since 1929. Anything post war has certainly been of origins other than Luton.

Meaning a VXR8 is as much “Vauxhall” as a Corsa or Astra are.

But they're Holden's, are they not? Or, at least, were. My history of the company is limited, i confess, but my understanding was that the Monaro's and VXR8's, while being badged as such, didn't have much Vauxhall influence behind them.

I'm happy to be corrected though.

Technically it’s a GM platform with a GM engine built in a GM plant. And branded under different GM brands for different geographic markets.

The current Vauxhall Corsa is not built by “Vauxhall”. It’s not even built in the UK. And is branded different in different markets. As per the images I posted. Both clearly what we would know as Astra’s But neither wearing a Vauxhall badge.

The logic is simple.

Either all Vauxhall badged cars for at least the last 70 years have not been Vauxhall’s. Just badge engineering.

OR

If you deem anything in that period and especially in recent times, say the last 30 years to be a “Vauxhall”. Despite it really being a GM model most likely sold under two or more different brands. Then the VXR8 is no different and no less of a Vauxhall than any of the other models.

Also from the next segment down so you're comparing it to a M3/RS4/C63 type of car to a M5 sized car and are surprised it's cheaper come on pick a relevant competitor.

Yeah people get quite confused by this Vauxhall/Opel/GM stuff - it's a bit like when they try to decide if something like the Insignia is British/German or American due to being sold as a Vauxhall, made in Germany at an Opel plant but was owned ultimately by GM the American part....suppose we can throw French in there now lol
