Really? Its not exactly like for like. Or maybe you could go shopping for an iPhone and come back with a coffee machine...
The looks can be deceiving, I would suggest a test-drive One can always end up with a glossy but over-priced iPhone, that would not even run basic apps with a decent speed!
It's easy to make the mistake of loading a Porsche with lots of unnecessary and expensive extras to impress your mates at the pub - and IMO this includes the supposed special editions.
Buy a base 718 for £43,000 and you've got one of the great sportscar bargains of all time.
.....those happier in a VW Golf were probably never cut out for a mid-engine sportscar in the first place!

That is the issue. I've looked at 718 late 2015, and went for VW hot-hatch instead I believe many do. Similar engine(2.0 turbo pot 4), more practicality, reliability and half the price. Previous Boxster/Caymans used to offer 911 characters with nearly half the price, currently just does not add-up. You could buy two cars; a brand newGolf R + used 987 or 986 with low miles, still costs less than current 718 line.
Well I believe that many dont , I currently own a 981 Boxster GTS and will be thinking about replacing it in the new year , why would I go and look at a golf its not even in the same ball park , I want a two seater sportscar , reliability in the 2 years I have owned it it nothing has broken , practicality dont really care and would think that most buyers dont or you wouldnt be looking at that type of car , cost thats a subjective thing but in the end its just numbersrockin said:

I am not sure it's a case of impressing anyone when you hit the spec sheet. I think in cars like this, people often spec it for the next owner...the resale-ability. Not great.Buy a base 718 for £43,000 and you've got one of the great sportscar bargains of all time.
But that being said, I already know there are things I would spec on a new car that my 981GTS didn't have...but there's very few. Where Porsche 'get you' is in the things you think a car of that price should have as standard - example from not so long ago being DAB. That was a cost extra up until this year! And climate control. It had air con, but not climate control. I don't mind optional extras like carbon ceramics, but things you get on an £11k Fiesta being cost options on a Porsche?? Have a word.
My car had the Bose stereo - and what a waste of money! Ha ha You only benefitted from the increased quality when the engine was off. You had to have the volume up very loud to be able to hear music over the music of the engine/exhaust! Ironically, I would spec the Bose in the 718 as I couldn't give a flying fornication for the sound of the 718 line and I doubt I would have any issues of the stereo being drowned out by the engine!

£60k for a 4-pot!!!!
SS7
PS I just checked the price of a RR Velar. A R-Dynamic HSE with the usual lousy 4 pot 2l diseasel is £66k. Perhaps I need to re-calibrate a bit.
Yep - there are lots including the 2.0 Inline 4 engined Volvo Polestar for EUR130k SS7

Pistonheads might as well become Porscheheads.
It looks like you may have our Porsche filter turned on where only Porsche news are shown to you.If you go to to the homepage and scroll past the featured box it will turn off the Porsche filter and other manufacturer stories will be revealed.
Hopefully, that will help.

The Caymans are for sure. Only 9 for sale in the OPC network right now - 8 PDK and 1 manual. They're still priced at £55k-£60k on average.
Shouldn't be surprised to be honest1) It's a Porsche with a G in it's title
2) It's arguably better than the current iteration.
Personally I think Porsche made a mistake going down the 4 pot Turbo route. They should have done whatever they could to keep the 6 cylinder engine. I'd have preferred they stuck a small hybrid battery in it to get the emissions down rather than downsized. They can get away with it in a Macan as people usually don't care what engine it's got but not in a sportscar with a Porsche badge on the bonnet.

Back on topic, Porsche have nailed the Boxster/Cayman's looks. After everything I read about the 4-pot soundtrack, I assumed it would be something akin to a Civic with a Cherry Bomb Chav 'zorst.
I saw/heard loads when cycling round Belgium and Germany last week...the engine not might not quite be a flat-6, but it isn't in anyway bad, and certainly no worse than the other down sized engines (Golf R/Audi V6 as star examples).

Not a fan of the rear end or the engine. 60K for a boxster with a turbo 4... pull the other one.
What would you have instead?1. Alpine Renault
2. Some sort of Lotus
3. Errrrrr
SS7
*New, not leggy, thrashed, clocked and knackered 'pre-loved'

What would I have for £60k? I'd be straight down to Lotus for an Exige. Better handling, nicer looking and it's got a proper cylinder count. It's not that long ago where you could ever imagine a Lotus having a better engine then a Porsche sportscar. Strange world we live in now.
The Exige is amazing....I had one as a daily driver for 2 years....but it isn't really a Boxster competitor IMO. It's a stripped out, raw sports car. Comparatively few Boxster owners would realistically consider an Exige as an alternative (and vice versa....I certainly didn't). You could claim the Caterham is an alternative too.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
