On the issue of weight. Porsche do indeed do a very good job. One of the drivers of weight in an Evora is the attempts to drive quality up with fairly low investments (They use low cost tools and fairly low cost substrates which drives fairly heavy parts / dense materials).

And its daft to benchmark the price of the 430 really. A limited run car with Lotus trying to push the price, no harm in that.

Maybe its only me, but I think the future for Lotus with the support of Geely (with Volvo and Polestar) on hybrid and electric drivetrains in particular is very exciting.

I believe that 2+2 is an option for this version using the Sparco seats. Also the rear windows can be reinstated. Time to get your cheque-book out?

PS: they only made four 2+2 GTEs and you're not having mine. wink
I think I've seen your photo's on here of the GTE? Top car. Have you ever had an opportunity to compare it to an Exige? Would be interesting to hear how they differ from a driving perspective.

No getting the cheque book out for me I'm afraid. When I sold my C4S I was determined to save for a manual Gallardo, V10 yes please, but that idea has fallen by the wayside. I've realised that I still would like to be able to share whatever I get with both the missus and my son at the same time, hence the interest in back seats, the prices of manual Gallardo's have risen as fast as I can put money away so I'm no closer to affording one and the missuses 12 year old B Class is going to pop it's clogs sooner rather than later so that'll need replacing eating a large chunk of the savings.

I will try an Evora I expect, all be it an early model, but I personally don't think that they look really good aesthetically until you get to either the GTE or this model. A bit shallow I know but looks are still important to me.

So to save 7KG of advertised weight they've pre-broken the washer fluid sensor and not filled the bottle?

Only Lotus would come up with that as an engineering solution. Porsche must be kicking themselves for not thinking of that smile
That is proper lotus engineering. The bottle will probably be a stock part from Toyota and to use a smaller bottle will cost ££. Tricking the sensor is free. Genius smile

I don't think you should be ashamed by that; going back to being a kid I was first arrested by the looks of a car and nothing else. Today, I want to be able to look back at my car as I walk away from it and think "Yep, that's all mine!" (well, the finance company's).

And I agree, the Evora is a slightly odd looking thing from some angles. The latest models however look great.

Out of interest, based on your username and tiny number of posts in 6 years+ do you only comment on topics relating to windscreen washers? smile

You`ll find an Evora a far nicer drive than a Gallardo, but the Gallardo does have that V10 engine and striking looks...

I have to agree. It should replace the Sport 410, which is now largely redundant.

Thanks whoever mentioned the GTE
Is it the GTE thats the widebody?

Weight saving probably precludes 2 reversing lights and 2 fogs

I ruled out the Lambo after a C4S because I just didn't believe I'd ever use it. I'd cherish it, polish it, be very careful with it, and ultimately not use it much. Wonderful thing (if starting to age quite a lot) but not the right car for me.

I also wanted the 2+2 layout so I could take the kids in a car. I bought a supercharged Evora which is low enough value (or preciousness?) for me to use as and when I want, I'll leave it at the airport etc which I probably wouldn't do with something exotic. There is something about the looks / proportions which isn't quite 100% but overall it is a very pretty car, and with an SR wrap, vented A-pillar lower, high rear wing they can look brilliant.

But, take one for a drive..... There is something very special about them.

That looks gorgeous. Happy that Lotus revisited that terrible front end on the other Evoras. I used to like the original clean design and always thought the restyling ruined the car. This front end is perfect. Please put it on the other cars too smile
That's funny because to me they're just not "right". Discounting that it is undoubtedly fantastic to drive, it's just not beautiful to me. Lotuses always look a bit cheaply designed and I'm only talking about the body and I know you don't look at the body from the driver's seat but they just don't tug at the heart strings like a Ferrari.

Yeah probably. My brother has had a Mk1 Elise for over 10 years now, a good friend has recently sold his Mk3 and is thinking of having an Elise Sport and an acquaintance has an Exige which he's been kind enough to give me a passenger ride in so I know how good the cars are in general even if I've not had a chance to get behind the wheel of an Evora.

To be honest though the older I get the less I am inclined to drive around at 9/10ths so the ultimate ability of the chassis is less of a concern to me as once it probably was. I understand and appreciate fully that the lotuses are good at being involving no matter what speed you are going but I can't imaging that the Gallardo would be dull at lower speeds either and the noise of a screaming V10 is by far the most aurally pleasing to me and something that I was desperate to have. I could of course look at M5/6's or maybe an S6 for a V10 but I don't want a large heavy barge either so it'll be something as compact and lightweight as possible which looks and feels special. Just not with the V10 noise.

I've spent most of my life in Norfolk as well so it would be nice to own a Lotus myself at least once.

I've personally never been that cautious of using the cars I've owned but can I understand why so many are. I've never worried about the resale value either and I won't with my next car. My C4S was pretty high mileage as I used it as much as I could when I sold it but because I've naturally always taken very good care of anything I own it was still in exceptional condition so the mileage wasn't as relevant. Better to be used and enjoyed in my opinion than worry about what you might or might not get for it when you've had your fun.

Like I say I definitely will try an Evora it's just the list of cars I fancy trying is a long one and the looks of the older standard cars might well count against it I'm afraid.

It does pose an interesting dilemma, if they had a massive cash injection and built a 911 competitor, it would have to be the same price as this to compete? But If i'd just bought this car and suddenly 3 years later there is a much more competent, prestigious version on offer for similar money I'd be pissed. Who are Lotus? If they start trying to be Mclaren, well they wouldn't really be Lotus anymore, would they still have a niche or would they struggle to compete? I think they tried moving in that direction before with Danny Bahar at the wheel, that obviously wasn't a success. Who knows, I've always thought the Evora as being overpriced for what it is, fabulous car don't get me wrong, brilliant to drive, but as an ownership experience its not in the same ball park as a Gt3 which is what this model is directly competing with. Looking at it from an outsider, if Lotus can sell these to people all round the world and they love what they get, what does it matter what I think ay, I'm just happy to see Lotus producing awesome cars again : ) I'm just bitter as I'll probably never afford one.

The article said:
Not that Lotus thinks it'll have any trouble selling the last few it's got left. It started life as a production run of 30, which soon became 60 off the back of demand. That 60 then spawned another 60 of a 'Sport' version (effectively the same car without the aero package).
Is the 430 Sport also limited to 60? I'd looked pretty carefully when that was announced but didn't see anything along those lines re the numbers.

Stay positive!

I agree, that's why I can't see myself buying a 8 year old Gallardo. Its not the resale (I don't think you could lose actually) but its maintaining a well used one to appropriate standards. I'm sure it would be 4 or 5 times the maintenance costs of my 911 and that would put a dent in my enjoyment hence I'd start seeing it as a trinket to cherish and not a sports car. I've started to think of the Gallardo as a very modern classic as it's looks are aging quickly at the moment.

Looks are of course subjective, perfectly reasonable to want a car you find very pleasing and I appreciate the Evora divides opinion. Am sure most would enjoy how they drive, but the looks either work for you or they don't.

I believe it's a retread of the "Lotus announces yet another new version" gag.
