Sink it into a car you can't afford, while taking self-defence lessons so you can effectively dominate your staircase when workshy council estate types turn up at 3am and kick in the door of your mortgage-free detached house (in a road that befits your status as a powerfully built director) for the keys. biggrin

My turn:

I left the board meeting early so I could drop cold hard cash on a new white S-Line with my cringeworthy mis-spaced custom plate.

1st dealership didn't believe me so I turned on my heel, you should have seen their faces half an hour later when I was doing burnouts on their lot!

The lads at the gym weight room (you don't get powerfully built with cardio) were well impressed when I pulled up in it.

How'd I do?

I can't understand why people have a hatred for others that buy their cars on any kind of finance!

It's like buying a house not many people have the money up front to go buy a house so you get finance!

I bet those that slag off others with finance all have credit cards which is finance yet because someone buys a car with finance other ppl especially on this forum look down on them!

I don't know how old some members are but it's about time they grew up! Not everyone wants to drive an old car and not everyone has the ready cash to go buy a new car it's the way of the world

So close. Fell at the last jump.

Are you the sort of shaft who borrows beyond your means to rent a car you cant afford in order to impress tts at red lights that you'll never meet (who dont care anyway)?

Are you the sort of self important gas giant who excretes gale force outrage whenever anyone points out that continually financing the most expensive part of car ownership is oerhaps not the genius financial move that you think it is?

Do you have over £200,000 in the bank and a track record for selecting perpetual winners on the stock market that would make Warren Buffet blush?

If yes, PCP, the equivalent of an 18 year old acting like a big shot because they have a phone 'on contract'. If no, actually buy a car like adults do. Adults, not huggies-soiling machiato-necking whiny millenials 'waa waa the economy waaa waa il never afford a house waa waaa i might as well pcp waaa ooo my dirty nappy'.

Alternatively..

Are you the sort of narrow minded shaft who assumes they know what's best for everyone around them, including complete strangers on the internet?

Are you the sort of self important gas giant who excretes gale force moral superiority whenever anyone points out that they enjoy having access to a new car every couple of years, aren't over extending themselves financially in doing so and do it for personal reasons you don't understand so therefore feel the need to deride?

Do you have an unhealthy obsession with ownership and a corresponding belief that it is a primary marker of maturity?

If yes then join PH and you too can share your judgmental and self important viewpoints with like minded shafts, safe in the knowledge that there will always be someone around who has a similar irrational hatred for all forms of personal finance, anything German and people who they deem to have gotten 'above their station' and leased an Audi..

This is probably the 10th time you mention soiled nappies in a very short amount of time. Have you considered what that says about you ?

I appreciate you have been a carer and that it has probably delayed your financial success in life which in turn explains your anger, but you should be proud rather than bitter.

Why should I own our family car if not owning it has effectively saved me 25% of the depreciation vs discounted cash price ? (happy to provide the MI, it's on the other thread).

It's not like anyone is impressed at the traffic lights, although this seems a crucial criteria for you. So maybe the key reason is because some schizophrenic PH member has decreed that I couldn't afford it ? Well indeed, I can't afford all the depreciation as I'd rather put spare cash in 40% uplifting pension and consumables for track days. Each to their own.

It's ironic really, people go on about PCPing a car being a bad idea but do the same thing with a house. They start off with a small one, pay a mortage for a few years, decide to get something bigger, so sell up, think they've made a few grand because it's worth more now than it was, but in relality all the other houses have gone up in price at the same rate. So they are no better off, so they get a bigger house with a bigger mortage, pay thousands in interest over the term and maybe at the end pay it off.

Then the council come along and sell it to pay for your care home fees.
