Oh yes, other side of the roundabout. I was muddling up where Farndon is, for some reason I told myself it was in the vicinity of Brownhills.
This is the accident I was referring to.

Your right though, the brownhills/a1/a46 island is notorious (not the location of the above fatal crash). I drive it every day on my way to work. I have seen 1/2 dozen crashes there in the 3 years I have lived there.

It’s got such a bad reputation that the local MP has managed to get special funding via parliament for an interim fix until they start the proper road modification in 2025.

Stupid idea dualing the a46 from Nottingham to South Newark and from North Newark to lincoln but leaving the ring road around Newark single carridgeway. It’s bedlham.

People drive badly everyday, sometimes it's a one-off, sometimes it's a regular occurrence for them.
The only reason this bloke was in the press was because he was driving a Porsche.
This. I did wonder if the video would be online if the Porsche driver was in a diesel Seat Ibiza...
You'll be able to find video examples of poor overtaking in all manner of cars online.

I can't see how he got found guilty on that one. As the piece says, he had more than enough room to pass and not cause her to move, she did that needlessly. The overtake was safe as far as I can see, but they needed someone at fault, other than the dead girl.

As said any overtakes seemed to be frowned upon now a days, I didn't see a problem until the Porsche driver served back out towards the oncoming driver that flashed him! Stupid move that speaks volumes about the driver, apart from that all good! smile It's quite nice to get a little flash lol.

Although it could be argued that he was 'just overtaking' I personally feel he was driving like a complete cock and putting others on the road at risk.

We all like a hoon and a good blast about in our cars but there's a difference in opening the taps on a quiet road and driving like a .

I'd be embarrassed watching that back if I was guilty of this

I find it genuinely concerning so many people on this thread think that was reasonable driving.

First overtake was fine. The second was a mess. The Porsche driver clearly planned to overtake both vehicles in front, misjudged the time and space he had and had to bail out after the first car (hence the breaks being slammed on before pulling back in to the left), squeezing into a space that wasn't there. Should that car have been so close to the car in front, no, does it excuse the guy who misjudged his overtake, no.

The Porsche driver should be grateful the car he squeezed in front of was aware enough to create space, as otherwise it would have been a head on collision, and he'd have no Porsche to sell.

People who flash overtakers are beyond stupid.

Oh, you're performing a manoeuvre that requires extra concentration / awareness / skill? Let me blind and distract you, that'll help.

I'm just wondering how much the make of car has influenced the discussion?

If this was a normal car and not a porsche would the OP have bothered to go looking for an advert, etc, etc.

The first overtake was well within the capability of the car and the overtaken driver had left enough room to facilitate the overtake.

The second one looked too tight but then I think most drivers when stuck behind a slow vehicle bunch up completing preventing an overtake even if someone was in a position to complete one.

In your opinion, not everyone agrees that a one second gap is an appropriate one to overtake into, whatever the performance of the car you are doing it in.

On some occasions that is correct. However on some other occasions it can be viewed that if a driver overtaking has not noticed an oncoming car and it is feared that if nothing is done (ie. flashing lights), then a head on collision may occur. Short of having flashing yellow beacons on all cars, a flash of the lights to say "look you dumb f##er there's traffic in this lane", can go a long way to get the blind idiot to move over.

I can see both sides of the argument.

But more on point; isn't one of the reasons why one buys a performance car so that one doesn't have to perform dodgy overtakes?
With performance comes ease of overtaking. Why did he think his overtaking opportunity along his route was so limited that he had to do it with oncoming traffic?
I guess that 997 doesn't have the power he wished it had. Not a good advert for the car wink

There was an advert mentioned earlier by the OP..

Just a thought but it might not have been the car owner driving, might have been a prospective purchaser driving!
