what's the point of removing the sound deadening, fitting thinner windows and removing door handles if you're not trying to create a 'light' style gt3 car for the sake of a measly 20kg
As I said, because you are trying to make it a more visceral experience. As everyone points out the 911 is a pseudo GT car, it has the sound deadening to give the car the characteristics that most 911 buyers want. If you want a fun car for baltting about in, which I think this is, you want to hear more of the engine, exhaust, tyres and surrounding environment more of the time.

Amen. Gearing on the manual 981s killed them for me, so I went PDK. Gearing on the manual 997 GTS I have now is almost perfect (3rd could come in at under 100mph ideally, think it's 104 or so) so something like that, or even a tad shorter, with a 7th cruising gear would be very nice.

Yup yes It's almost criminal they didn't do this T version for the 991.1

For me it appeals .

Manual option with closer ratios , delete rear seats and lightweight savings .

I'm also in the camp where it's not all about speed but I do think the S engine should have been added especially when it's 90k once you've added a little spec.

Wonder what Harris will make of it..........

I like it. Whilst it's far from light I'm sure it would be a great steer on the right roads and it's still a 911.

Missed a great opportunity though to offer some real distinctive interior trim, retro plaid possibly, to set it aside from the cooking models.

Yeah, I'm sighing! I remember a discussion about the advent of turbo's & the desire for a more focused standard carrera.
I think I remember saying in jest that they'd probably do one after the turbo's were introduced, I think cmoose stated he'd scream if they did! I might myself!
I'm in a GT4 and gave serious consideration to speccing up a more focused 991.1 as an alternative.A manual 991.1 wouldn't perhaps have been the cleverest buy at the time- shift quality/residuals etc. Back seats would however be a big advantage to me.
Now I dunno, the improved manual is a non issue but there's a bigger compromise engine wise- is it worth it for the seats??
Why does it come with 20" wheels??? What's stripped back or focused about that?? No 19 " option!!

Yeah, all about the rear seats for me nowadays+++, and I've come to realise that once you hit about 250bhp/tonne, anything more actually detracts from the road driving experience, esp if turbocharged. My 997 GTS at ~260bhp/tonne with my portly figure in it is, truth be told, a bit too much.

+++Kids, who'd have 'em eh?! wink Although weirdly when sprog 2 arrives in a few weeks all being well, if we can't fit the backwards facing seat behind me in the 997 (forwards one behind the passenger for sprog 1 is fine), I might switch back to a 2 seater as if it's hardly going to get any use, you might as well open it up to proper impractical cars!

if that's true then the car has little interest to me.
it might well be true too, which is a shame.

Not true at all. Shorter gearing has more impact in the real world than another 20-30 bhp.

Agree - I can’t get past the engine I’m afraid - in this and in truth, any 991.2 that isn’t NA (true turbo excluded) frown

being realistic they won't devalue the brand image of the 911. Time to relaunch the 914...

Quite like this, to be honest. I’ve never been a huge 911 lover, but this really appeals. Kind of like a discount Carrera GTS, no?

Indeed! The dilemmas we have!
I agree that's more than adequate for road enjoyment.

For that money I would go for an Evora 400 or even better a 410

Well I spec'd a Red one in manual with rear seats and PCM (so probably undid most of the weight saving). Guards looked amazing on the new GT3 there awaiting delivery!

Be interesting to see what happens with these. Dealer couldn't tell me when I'd get allocation but said they'd had half a dozen deposits today...

That's very interesting I thought some would jump at one.

One question- how capabme are these going to be as an occasional track car ?

Half a dozen deposits is crazy - just shows how strong the brand is atm.

Sorry about my spelling of ' capable'! I was in a rush and on my iPhone :-)

I just specced one to 92k . Track days a year I guess 3 or 4 but then a GT4 may be the better option .
Kinda hoping I get lucky with a new GT4 but I'm not overly hopeful .

One thing I just remembered was the first years 'luxury' tax ?

I'd be more tempted by this:

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Or stretch the extra $30 odd K and get a second hand 991.

Nice but had two of those and no buckets in a GT3? Looking dated to me now and I'm getting old !

The T appeals but I'd wanna drive one first and that's not sounding an option.

92k with spec Hmmmmm I'm slightly struggling with it
