Different people like different things I suppose. Someone may prefer a mid-engine car rather than rear for starters.

Why on earth would you choose a tin-topped Boxster GT4 over a 911? the 991.2 Carrera T looks like a great purchase. Base 911 Carrera is all you need - this 991 Get 2 faster in its basic form that most of the 997.2 generation, You dont' need anything more.
Because some people prefer the handling and balance of a mid-engined car? Because some people prefer the looks of the Boxster/Cayman?

You don't NEED anything more than a 320d estate car. Pretty dull though if we all thought that way.

In which case, if/when Monkey Harris gives it a sideways shoe'ing ( - sorry, test) we may have some expectation that yet again Porsche will have created something that is greater than the sum of its parts (a little like the 996 C4S if you will).

At least I hope so anyway. beer
The C4S is a decent looker but I don't think anyone would claim is is greater than the sum of it's parts. The opposite actually. The sum of it's parts make it heavier and slower.
Heavier, yes, and slightly slower to 60 - but it has suspension in bespoke tune which combined with the running gear of the Turbo means its handling is widely regarded as the pick of the 996 bunch.

I think Evo had it as their best handling non-GT 996 from memory

Does anyone know if the T is a limited run in the UK?
Waiting to get a slot for my GTS order, but if it’s not forthcoming I might go for the T and pocket the difference....if I can get one.

Apparently not but I guess the limit is the number of production months left of the 991 and the production split due to demand. My OPC has 10 orders but thinks they will come through at a rate of about 2-3 a month so could have one in Q2/Q3 next year.

I really like the 911T - had a play with the configuration - not a cheap car but very appealing! And by the looks of it properly available to order. Well done Porsche for listening at least a bit to the customers - terrific and congratulations to you guys who have ordered them I think you’re going to be so pleased. Don’t listen to the “where is the advance over the base Carrera you get less for more” thing - you’ll have a much rarer and more special car because of those small “talking point” omissions.

I agree, I'd buy the T over a regular Carrera .

Didn't stop people buying the 997 sport classic that to me looked like a regular car with just a body kit and small power upgrade .
Never liked that car

Nice. Black wheels on a black car not my thing, but it's your car so that doesnt matter a bean!

One point. Have you driven a car with red dials? Its dreadful day to day, so I would strongly advise trying a car with them if you haven't.

Agree on the past 'premium' car demise of BMW (Audi and Mercedes too). Trouble is, despite the ubiquitous increase of these three makes largely funded by the meteoric rise and access afforded by pcps and generation rent, they are still perceived by many as being premium despite every man and his dog having an invariably white one parked outside the Barratt noddybox.

Delusion is rife across all branding and markets.

Dilution can work.

Look at the typical hideous Evoque.....how many of the deluded driving these things seriously think they drive a proper Range Rover....hehe
Dear Lord.

Love the black on black myself and was only convinced otherwise by a Guards GT3 in the showroom! If you are after a little colour inside I'd be inclined to go for the red belts rather red dials...

GT4 - they don’t make them any more (and it’s not a 911)
GT3 - if you haven’t already had the call then you’re not going to be getting one. Shame. Costs more anyway.
GTS -available but is wide bodied, heavier, costs more but is more powerful.
T - has some cool features such as lightweight glass which isn’t available on any Carrera and spec is way more than a Base. Interesting proposition.

I’m in for a 2018 T. Deposit paid today. Also keeping 2016 na GTS .1 for now but watch the For Sale section.

p.s. I know Lotus, McLaren, AMG, etc exist but not interested.

The GT4 is a great car but I want a 911.

The GT4 was by far and away the most focused and to me desirable Caymann that Porsche made. No doubt they’ll make a 718 version eventually, and it’ll be as hard to obtain and as coveted as a 911 GT3. But as it will not be a 911, then it won’t be for me unless my needs change between now and then.

Yes, and even more remarkable is that despite the over supply of the mainstream meh 'white 2.0 Tdi A4' and similar, coupled with the bad press associated with dieselgate, the average price of used diesels across this sector actually rose from August into September despite increased supply from trade ins during this month.

If made, production numbers for the 718 GT4 could well be approaching 1000 for the UK so theoretically it will be easier to buy than the 981.
