ULEZ charge in 2021

You can talk, you've only just got here with 11 posts, some of us have been suffering for years
You are patient.I'm here because I worry how few of my friends have any incling as to how ULEX will impact on their lives if it goes through in the way being suggested. I was hoping to get some suggestions as to what we could do about it - not listen to kindergarten banter.
Simply put ........Nothing!
There seems to be no governing body the motorist can complain to to lobby the case for some sort of reprieve.
The only guys I know of that try to lobby are the Fair fuel campaign which has amongst others Quentin wilson involved.

Its worth signing up to just to lobby some kind of protest, But there's a few on here who are positively welcoming the idea of ditching the fossil fuel cars.

Thanks.
I'll join up with the folk you suggest.
I'd love to ditch my fossil Bentley for a Tesla. But I don't think that's what conserving the planet is actually about when I think of the resources consumed in manufacturing one. I have even looked into converting the B to LPG where it will emit no Nox - but Mr Khan says that is cheating and still wants his tithe.
Likewise my seventy something wife who has carefully looked after her 1999 Audi would love to go (car) shopping. But as she never drives more than two miles from home she feels she is already helping save the planet polutionwise. The amount of Nox she produces a year is unlike to give asthma to a bumble bee.
I have read that anyone who stands for Mayor on a remove Ulez mandate will get in.
I think I might!

Personally, I shun the old taxis as the drivers and the passenger space is usually as filthy as the smoke from the back of them. More people should have a bit of self respect and not leap into the first cab but wave them on and wait 30 seconds for a newer one. Consumers actively shunning the old wagons will further speed up the transition.
Agreed, I do just this on the rare occasion I have to take a cab. Wish more people would think about doing the same, really.fatboy18 said:

Or, you could have joined the initial consultation and voted, like those with strong opinions. There seems to be no governing body the motorist can complain to to lobby the case for some sort of reprieve.

Rather than not engaging with issues which you now suddenly seem to care strongly about.
Just a thought.

Keen for a source on this.Obviously, as someone who cares passionately about this (along with most others in this thread), you'll doubtless be aware that the ULEZ was Boris Johnson's idea more than 6 years ago. Right?

I "voted" no in the London Borough of Richmond consultation on 20mph speed limits borough-wide ("Voted" in quotes because I'm aware it wasn't a binding referendum or anything). But despite "no" winning, the feckers are still doing it anyway; the councillors know best I guess. Makes you wonder why bother "engaging" when the politicians just do what they like anyway.Rather than not engaging with issues which you now suddenly seem to care strongly about.

Mmmm, slightly disingenuous there; as far as I am aware Boris only ever announced plans for a central ULEZ not the whole expanded north/south circular one; didn't mention 24/7 so people probably assumed something much like the congestion charge; and what he announced had less stringent vehicle requirements than what's been knee-jerked into place now.Besides, where is Boris now? Fairly washed up and on the scrap heap I think, spending his days chasing his new woman around south-west London.
It is all a bit of a mockery really. My frugal 2014 Mini Cooper D with CAT and DPF is not ULEZ compliant. My 2002 Mini Cooper S which drinks fuel and fires unburnt oil out of the exhaust is ULEZ complaint. This means it's actually cheaper to take my noisy polluting track car into London to visit my brother than my quite and frugal daily.
I do of course appreciate I'm an edge case in all this, but it does make me chuckle.
Maybe there's a business opportunity here to sell Londoners cheap old petrol cars and take their Diesel cars away and sell them where they're worth more money.

One of the four buses I used quite often is a hybrid. It's a joke really, the engine cuts out just before it stops, then fires up just after pulling away. It's running almost all of the time, more like a half-arsed stop/start system. They still pummel put the emissions and then there is the additional weight / cost / materials used to make one.
I agree with the ULEZ charge, if not it's implementation. But the millions of extra planes that now fly from City Airport directly over central London each year, that our dismal crime loving mayor immediately allowed, is heading in the wrong direction. A320 family planes are big noisy polluting planes.
Ten year old Black cabs that just sit nose to tail by the dozen with the engines idling. This could have been tackled a long time ago.

Wrong.Consider this a free education.

Then the standards were confirmed over 4 years ago.

But yeah, this was slipped in the back door, as a surprise.
