ULEZ charge in 2021

I'd love to know how they got data for "Average concentrations of suspended particulate matter, measured in microgrammes per cubic metre", any time prior to 1960.
What's your point ?
That they should leave car drivers alone, and that they're not the problem ?
Point is how is that possible? Otherwise data is unreliable? Or is it just based on theory? What's your point ?

Also Yes and yes, car drivers should be left alone and they're not the problem.

Basic history less time for you I guess. Do you remember that thing called 'the industrial revolution' ? When we learned how to smelt iron and we did it by burning coal by the truckload ? Do you know what happens when you do that in an urban area - especialy a basin like the Greater london area ? yes - the soot stays put and it hangs around in the atmosphere.
Obviously burning coal was a lot worse for the environment - that's why we don't do it any more (in urban areas) but the principle is the same, we need to reduce it.
Your reasoning is reminiscent of the gun nuts in the US. "It's not the gun, it's the human". "You can kill pople with knives too". My point is that you don't appear willing to consider the unthinkable, the curbing of the use of ICE vehicles in Central London. It's needed. It's funny that those of us who live here are kind of for it - and people who just want to whinging about curbing of their rights and 'additional punitive taxation' moan about something that isn't affecting them.
It needs to target all forms of polluting vehicle and to push for increased electronic vehicles - it really isn't just the singling out of car drivers.
That is why I initially asked was it possibly due to manufacturing or coal burning etc? Read my old posts. Also if I really wanted to make a point I'd suggest you look at the data around 2016 it keeps dropping yet the politicians seem to suggest otherwise.Obviously burning coal was a lot worse for the environment - that's why we don't do it any more (in urban areas) but the principle is the same, we need to reduce it.

Anyway my initial/first post wasn't about central London it was about the area that will be covered after 2021 and what the correct cost would be? As I have mentioned before I have friends who live within the circular roads and I find it annoying that they will be penalised just because they live there even if it is only 10% of the cost it still amounts to ~£365 if you drive your car everyday. If you want to charge me to enter London then fine but why charge people who live there? It's not worth driving into the central part of the city anyway since it's always grid locked. I also fear this will become a UK wide practice with every other city jumping on the bandwagon, why should I have to switch to an electric car? I don't want to, why don't the cities/councils spend some money to improve the road network instead. There seem to be so many inefficient designs in some cities that can be easily remedied and I'm sure it will relieve congestion.

Hi all,
I've read the whole thread!
I've also received the consultation letter that arrived in the post.
I'm also very concerned as I live within the south circular (near woolwich) and I drive a year 2000 Peugeot 406 coupe (2lt).
I don't drive to work (I walk 40 min each way), but I will be forced to sell my pride and joy (I've had her for 14 years and spent load maintaining her, including a cambelt change, clutch, paint job etc).
I'm not really in a position to upgrade as i'm also looking to buy a house!
So I've decided to set up a campaign asking TFL & the Mayor of London to reconsider expanding the ULEZ for light vehicles to the North & South Circular.
Hi mate could you please tell me the name of your petition since the moderator has removed it? Cheers. I've read the whole thread!

As I understand it, there is a sunset scheme for the central zone because it has been brought forwards and residents need time to change vehicles where necessary. As residents living within the extended zone know now that they will be affected their 'sunset' is effectively from now until October 2021?
ie no specific 'Sunset Scheme' for those resident in the extended ULEZ, as they are on the same notice as any who are non-resident.The first press release said that only disabled, specially adapted private hire and charity vehicles have a sunset period for the extended zone.
