My first thought was "Ouch, to compete with the new TVR then..?"
My thoughts exactly. GMD did most of the design work, provide the production technology (iStream) and will build the first prototypes pending the factory being equipped/staffed/trained etc. to allow regulatory approvals (that is my supposition by the way - no inside knowledge).TVR has effectively validated the GMD concepts, which is not an issue provided they then aren't used to compete against TVR, which will be tough to define as TVR will probably want to move into other segments once they have a succesful first product.

He's building an MX5?
Someone else commented that he's been trying to find a written off MX5 so maybe like Fiat, he's trying to find a way to make something that's different enough without having to engineer a whole pile of running gear. Which would be expensive. And at the end of the day if he's building a small open top car it's going to be up against the MX5 and 124 Spider in the market whether he likes it or not so he may as well take a look at what he's got to beat.

Is this in any way related to "Gordon Murray Design", which has been promising a "revolutionary" city car and supercar concept since 2007? Has this guy actually done anything tangible since the mid-90s, or is he just trading on his F1 cred?
I love the 'just ' . I wonder sometimes just what motivates asinine comments like this . One of the best ever designers in F1 at Brabham and McLaren , the man who knocked up a DFV engined Le Mans contender as a side project to the day job , the man who carried on the Chapman 'added lightness' legacy, the guy who designed the original and best hypercar (which also won Le Mans despite not being designed as a racer) , the guy who created the template for the ultra light bike engined track/sports car and now has revitalised TVR ? And at 71 is still working hard to produce new stuff ? Not a bad CV in my book- what's on yours I wonder ? shirt said:

He's announcing the car at the end of next week.
has he shared any details? thumbs up or down?Being the resident PH cynic I have to say that I don't think what I'd call a proper car that sells in quantifiable numbers will emerge.
We've heard it to many times I'm afraid.
Flat pack cars which will solve the non existent African transport crisis.
Single seat city cars that people say they'll buy but never do.
I'm afraid GM is coming up with the answers that only people on here have a question for and when it comes to putting our money where our mouth is we simply don't.

I think a German company will be providing and supporting the engine - but it will be an interesting engine. NA, about 6 litres reckon, very light.
BMW still make their NA V12 ? The MX5 / 124 rumours on here also very interesting, one can only hope this is the way it's going and a real product appears. Good thing I still have all my internal organs .Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
