Daily Mail comments section, the nearest these days, you can get to a public execution, I imagine a lot are similar to "The old gits", the misanthropic and curmudgeonly Harry Enfield characters and someone elses misfortune makes their day.

The subtext with these articles, reading between the lines is similar "Ha Ha, look at this rich prick, he fked it up, Ha Ha", well that will take him down a peg or two, grrr. I think this chap will survive, his actual garage has more nice cars than most people have on Forza.

I think a lot is human nature, we all want to have a nosey but the glee some display is sickening, example

"yet another dope with too much money and no skills....."

Hmm, dope, he seems to have done ok for "a dope", no skills, well, anyone can get it wrong, especially in a car like that.

"I'll stick with my ford focus, thanks"

Yeah, Focus owners always have to choose between that and a Zonda.

And someone wades in with some common sense, how dare they and spoil the mood

"I believe it was Peter Saywells car, on the way to a charity event he organised at Goodwood. He's pretty handy behind the wheel, but I can't imagine this is the easiest car to drive in wet and changeable conditions - if he was even driving it at the time, as a few of his cars were at the event."

The Daily Mail is great, read the comments and resolve not to end up a sad, embittered, jealous, seething bag of monkey st like so many of their commentators.

I might have a bit too much faith in humanity but I don't reckon everyone that drove past would look to dob the driver in for 'ragging it due to some jealousy. However, those pricks on the Daily Mail will turn their eye to anyone else's misfortune and have a damned good mocking laugh at them. Sad acts.

It's the same as when the guy in the McClaren ended up in a house round this way (Wiltshire) a few months ago, a very lucky escape for him and his passenger but the local press wouldn't let it go for days and it ended up on the main BBC too.
I think the massive damage to the car, the lucky escape and the whole ‘car ploughs into house’ angle all combined to make that ‘newsworthy’, particularly with photos.

The house is still covered in scaffolding today, the damage was pretty significant.

A reminder of the McLaren crash in Wiltshire:

You can see why all local and national press covered that story!

My point is though, the story ended up being about the McClaren more than anything else, had it been a ford focus or a 10 year old Saab, it wouldn't have gone past the local news

I think if a regular car smashed into a house and there was serious damage but no one was hurt (or people were killed) then it would make the nationals.

This one stands out - https://www.metro.news/four-hurt-after-car-crashes...

The McLaren, due to its value and rarity, makes it more interesting.

I don't know, there seem to be a lot of stories lately about cars going into houses, and those usually look to be more regular cars than the McLaren whcih was a bit of an anomaly in the stats.

That deserves a conspiracy theory like the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon that allegedly never happened such was the devastation.

700BHP + on those tyres on that greasy looking road and half inch too much throttle, that could have easily happened at 30mph tbh.

Shame, smashing looking car.

Does anyone know he dropped it coming out of the garage , easily done I would think when pulling back on to the carriageway?

I won't even bother looking at the Daily Fail link, it'll only make me angry.

That is the other beef I have, immediate thoughts of the Daily Fail reading public is "Millionaire Boy Racer doing a ton along the road loses his motor" which makes them immediately bathe in their smugness. You are right, could have happened at any speed, had it been icy, he could have hit a barrier at 20 and done damage and it would have still been reported like the guy was a lunatic.

Also Possible he was building up speed from the roundabout in the background beyond the filling station. The car appears to be too far away to have "lost it" on exiting the roundabout itself.
Used to have very good prices on Esso at that filling station too, then it changed hands.... frown

Earlier this morning a lady on the local news channel was saying how she'd done something similar a while back. Lost the back end on a damp roundabout in the same spot. It wasn't newsworthy then as she was in a BMW 3 Series apparently.
I remember a few years ago a yellow Mach 1 Mustang being totalled after losing it trying to pass a TVR off a roundabout on the M27 at Chi just past the Pagham turn off.

How badly was he driving that he crashed but the TVR didn't biggrin

I wish I hadn't read some of those comments but couldn't help myself. The bile being spewed out is quite something. Look at this peach.

This McLaren made the DT without hitting anything.
