The fact we have cars like this relatively affordably available to us is something to be celebrated. Both have real world performance that was the stuff of supercars not that long ago.

It was great to see Matt having such a giggle!
I cant afford either but, as they are both similar in performance, I'd have the Type R if I could as the RS is too "normal" to look at.. and yes I know a lot of people find the Type R gopping to look at but I like the way it looks.

The Mountune seems to get a positive reaction, compared to the standard RS, they usually do but tend to be a package with an eye on warranty preservation, has anyone tried any other remaps or tuning options ?

There's a variety of them (Revo, Cobb, Litchfield, Indigo etc) and all the guys who've gone various routes all seem happy with them, but at the end of the day if you don't want to have that chat about unwarranted tuning then FPM375 is your destination.

Mountune have put out a 490bhp engine, no doubt this is where their car will end up running as the M400 demo is badged 500!

Sadly I'm probably not likely to be in a position for either but I have to say the Civic isn't as gopping on the move as it is stationary. We are being spoilt at the moment in this sector.

I didn't like the Civic when I saw it in photos, but when I drove past the Honda dealership and saw the blue one they had on a stand outside I thought it looked great. Looked very much like the modern Impreza, just with more fins and grills.

Exactly, incredible choice, 4wd, FWD, RWD, LSDs, proper brakes, etc etc. There is something for everyone.

Last time I looked (granted was over a year ago) the grills were mostly cosmetic! some didn't penetrate through the bodywork or add any functionality whatsoever - really tacky boy racer stuff.

Has that changed?

The rivalry to replace the Scooby / Evo glory days (which some of us refuse to let go of!)

Turbos, easily tuned, affordable, accessible, practical. But with next-gen brakes, gearboxes, diffs.... it's all rather exciting. I hope for plentiful tuning options for these once the warranties are no longer a concern.

I can see how these will appeal to the target market of 12 year olds most definitely.

But in the real world, I think I'd sacrifice a bit of power, save a lot of dignity and get myself down to the VW dealer for a Golf R.

Sacrifice power and dignity and buy a Golf R - I couldn't sorry I bought the RS and got some fun thrown in for free lol

PS the avg age for buyers according to Ford is about the 50 mark so I'm not in that target market either (you know the one's who actually bought it lol)

A big fan of RS’s but I think the 4 doors makes it look dull. The Civic is the polar opposite. It doesn’t matter how well it goes, I wouldn’t want to be seen getting out of it.
I bet the result would have been different if driven on drizzly day though.

If this is anything like the last thread, Abhefive and his mates will be along in a minute to tell us all about how attractive the Focus RS makes you to 12 year old boys.

Spare us this time, guys.
I don't have "mates" on PH. Everyone here is a cock laugh

Also I never said anything about 12 year old boys so you are talking total bks.

Looks to me like Matt was having far more fun in the Focus yet proclaims the Civic as the wimner. Odd deciaion but I guess it's all just opinions.

My opinion is that the CTR is too ugly to live with and I like that the RS is stiff and oversteers so readily.

I agree the megane will be interesting but I doubt it will be as good as either of these.

Now how long until the 3 amigos that hate the RS yet feel compelled to "contribute" to every thread about it...........

edit: I see one is already here rofl

What makes you 'doubt' the Megane will be as good, let alone better, than the RS and Type R? It's years further down the line in terms of development and has already been anointed the new king by Car Throttle? Just idle speculation on your part (based on the bizarre notion that a car released 3 years later will be inferior than the RS).

The body design of the Honda is just sooooo grotesque. A lot of Hondas in recent years have been quite handsome but this thing is an absolute abortion. I'm sure it's great to own and drive though, even though people are laughing at you.

BTW the RS has now broken the £26,000 barrier with one sold today for £25,999 on autotrader so well on track to be at or around the GFV at 3 years, as I have always predicted ...

The Megane will be okay to start with, just like the first 225's and 250's. Nothing to shout about. Then the Trophy will come out and start to get things going, that one will more than likely be a competitor for the RS and type R. The trophy will then give way to the Pheasent spec cup variants where things will get cheap and nasty, but fun. However none of them will give the smiles the Focus can give, and as you point out, whenever I see reviews of the Focus coming second ALL the reviewers are visually more excited when hooning around in the RS.

Yes, just idle speculation on my part, your part and car throttles part as nobody has driven it. You are good at that, having driven nothing comparable so it seems odd for you to question it.

For me it is, fwd and down on power. I quite like the odd gawky looks but it has to really punch above it's weight to be comparable.

I enjoy my Megane a lot but on this new one I doubt RWS is as fun as torque vectoring awd. We'll see.

The Megane is a car that if very good I may in future purchase to replace my R26 when it innevitably comes down to £10k after 4 or 5 years.

You don't honestly think that a £30k car that is 18months old with 12k miles on it selling for £26k is bad, do you? Thats bloody miracle lack of depreciation. You are on a different planet.
