Because it looks like a Mk1 Golf.

Not saying that was the basis for the styling - just saying that's one of the cars it looks like. smile

I think that could sit along side my S2000 quite well thumbup
Fabulous original design.
Tips it's hat in a few directions, but certainly doesn't 'copy'

Great to see they've got their styling mojo running again.

A performance EV? Maybe the time is right for one (unlike the Tesla Roadster), but I can't imagine it, certainly not after experiencing the best ICEs that they can do...

Still, if it's a "lifestyle" coupe in the same market as the MX5 / Z4 / SLK / TT, then powertrain probably doesn't matter - they've been putting diesels in some of them, after all...

have to say I'd have either as a daily driver if they were reasonably priced and specced, they look great.

Same can be said of the mazda concepts, is japan suddenly taking the lead in car styling?

Looks like a modern day interpretation of a Saab Sonnet to me. Sadly not a patch on the hatchback which is one of the best designs I’ve seen for a long time.

How can a company that come up with this also be responsible for the atrocity that is the latest Civic Type-R?

Hoping this heralds a new direction for Honda design, which used to be the last word in reserved purpose.
yep, why o why didn't Honda just do another boring cookie cutter hot hatch like....well.....a polo GTi!!!

Come on, it would be sad if Honda didn't bring us something from the more crazy end of the spectrum....a little biased of course...

These two are lovely, but I do wonder if EV powertrains might allow more radical packaging options?
If they were to emerge, would the marketplace accept them, though?

This! My desire for and plan to buy an S2000 was immediately abandoned when I tried to drive one for the first time.

It looks far more like the Mk1 Civic than it does the Mk1 Golf.
It can look like 2 things, but when the 2nd thing (golf) is basically an uglier copy of the first thing (civic), why would you use the 2nd one as a reference point?

I thought the Hatch was the best looking concept car I'd seen in years! But Honda have managed to top it within months. I love its proportions and really really hope they produce them both. All of Honda's current cars just look like uninspiring messes to me. These look like timeless pieces of design!

On another note, I do think the Hatchback looks far more Mk1 Civic than Mk1 Golf - especially if you compare images. The rear lights, bonnet shape, shape of the arches, shape of the rear window etc.

Later cars that copied the design influence from the 2000gt and the Honda civic maybe?

Nice to see something with smooth lines again. Thought the days of that 'classic' look were gone (think the Lexus design language of late... barf...)

Whites the wrong colour to show those curves off..... and shame its EV. I wouldn't buy one over something with an ICE.

Those look great.

Let's hope if they build it that it doesn't end up being an amorphous blob of st as usually happens with concepts.

I like it and I love the Urban EV.

I can't stand the fact that manufacturers seem to think that futuristic/angular cars are the way to go and represent progress, Toyota CHR/Honda Civic are a couple that spring to mind.. I think there is absolutely still a space in the market for more classic, simple, smooth styling along the lines of these EV.
