The stickered up/tuned blue Focus ST is see locally sometimes always being driven way too fast for the situation, like tonight walking the hound it flies past making a racket, pursued by a very noisy diesel A3 which was obviously also tuned (and stank)

Ok, its fairly late but its a 30 and they were doing more than that, a lot more.

If anyone knows someone in Wilmslow with a Blue Focus ST with a livery on it, there cant be that many, please suggest Chapel/Moor Lane isnt an ideal place to race.

2/ The silver Vauhall Morono van that had ran out of diesel and come to a complete stop in the middle lane of the M2 where the M25 joins it
The M2 does not have a junction on the M25.

The A2 does....tongue outsmile
That’s why it ran out of fuel. It got lost.
I was following the signs for the M2 and it was wide enough to be an M road. Meh. :P

As well as being as lost as I was it was a Vauxhall so place your bets as to whether the fuel gauge worked or not.

There are days when I think that wouldn't be such a bad idea !
I'm with you on that
Too many really don't give a st in car parks
Not sure I'd drive around like that or could be arsed to rig it up each time I park wink
it's not a big market though is it. Those who care enough about cars to be super bothered about park dings, but not enough to buy a car that isn't a citroen and doesn't have rubber doors.
If your bothered about your car, surely the answer is not to try to park right next to the store entrance?

My local Tesco, people park in the drop off points to do their shopping, just 2 meters from an empty parking space.

I have parked my New Beetle convertible weekend toy in the middle of a deserted Sainsburys car park 5 minutes after they opened, only to come back 2 minutes later to find the only other car in the car park parked so close I had to get in through the passenger side. I assume they did it as some kind of "joke", but really, what is wrong with people ?

i dearly love parking in the furthest away spaces. Some places are not big enough or are too busy for those to be quiet places in the car park though.

The thing is though that by doing that you are marking yourself out and that's why people park next to you too annoy and because they can.

It's like working around with a big yellow chicken face on your head and not expecting people to say anything.

Some people don't want to park near the store, but aren't very good drivers and need another car to park next to as a guide.

The absolute thundering flap on the M4 heading toward Swindon the other day. Sat in L3 (medium in L1, L2 light traffic) doing 60. Sat behind him. Quick flash of headlights with right indicator on. At this point I wasn't up his ass, and had enough room to render the following pointless.

He start gesticulating, throwing out a certain finger on ones hand. I at this point, starting laughing at him. He saw this, and went apoplectic, and brake tested me down to 30mph. Luckily the van behind saw what a thundering -monkey he was being and didn't run into me.

At this point, I got fed up having spent 10 minutes trying to get past, and undertook him in the empty L2. He then tried to block me by swerving infront of me into L2. this point L1 was clear and I just carried on into L1, floored the loud pedal and got past.

At this point he started trying to chase me, and was flashing headlights, coffee beans sitting up my ass the lot. I just carried onto at 70ish and he got bored.

To top it off, he then swung into L3 and ran the van in L3 out of room, completely.

I then turned off to get away from the thundertt.

What we need in the UK are fines for obstructing traffic. If you're going slow and there are a line of cars behind you without a legitimate reason, you should be fined for obstruction unless you allow the traffic to pass..
This is an absolutely excellent idea!

Can we start on the slowest vehicles first please? Like all of those parked at the side of the road which cause moving vehicles to have to stop to allow oncoming traffic to pass?

Fines are not the thing though. Plenty of drivers accept fines as routine in places where parking is more expensive than fines. The wealthy would shrug them off and continue to hold traffic up by parking on roads. So seizure and forfeiture of any vehicle that's obstructing traffic ought to be the first order of business.

Only when we've cleared the roads (and more importantly all our verges and footways) of inconsiderately dumped vehicles should we consider moving on to deal with those driving just a tad more slowly than a bunch of self-absorbed cretins deem appropriate.

But yes. In principal, I'm all for it...

Or? Perhaps this sort of "new law" would be exactly the kind of "draconian persecution of innocent motorists" that most posters on PH would normally rally against?

PistonHeads. Hypocrisy Matters!

tongue out
One of the problems with parking in the roads is that on many estates, even modern ones, no off road / casual parking spaces are provided. Do those that design the estates not realize that people living in the houses, might have visitors / deliveries / relatives, or more than one person in a family with a car?
Another possibility however could be that those that do have their own driveway / parking spaces on their properties but who still park in the road should be fined for not using their own dedicated parking space, or is it that they believe the space in the road outside their house belongs to them as well?

Simply? Yes, they are aware, but the developers can remove a load of parking spaces, and put 3 more houses in - and they will!

Also, as said before, a house may be designed with 2 parking spaces, but then you have the dad's works van, the wife's 4x4, daughter's car, daughter's boyfriend's car (as he's living there because they can't afford a deposit), the boat/trailer for the weekend, the caravan on the drive... And then the 2 spaces plus one on the road outside are nowhere near enough. Copy that for next door, again for the house over the road, and you pretty soon get a situation where parking is "guarded", people leave cars on the road so they've always got the driveway as a reserve, and estates clog up and become the nightmare that they are.

Yes the developers are at fault here, but we also as a society accept that people have FAR more cars than they can responsibly park (it's my right!), they won't rent a garage or storage facility, and so the problems grow. Then you get residents parking schemes (buy your own permit) being touted and all hell breaks loose. I have 2 cars and a campervan myself. My other half has 2, plus a Mk2 Jag in a barn. That's 6 cars between 2 people. I am/we are as much a part of the problem as anyone - although I can park all of mine on my property, and next door takes "my" road space.

Put a parking space somewhere, it will be filled, and there will be plenty of people waiting to fill it as soon as it becomes empty. A second car, a works van, a commuter walking to the station, an abandoned wreck - we've all seen it.

As said in the bus gate thread, a total re-think of driving is needed - common sense, responsibility, and consideration for others needs to be increased about 1000% and then things might start to work.

Spot on Bob,

But I think one of the biggest sins by estate developers and councils are the large areas with only one entry and exit. Woosehill in Wokingham is a prime example, there's only one major road out and that goes onto Reading Road (A329), every exit from Woosehill goes onto Reading Road and only one of those is controlled (a roundabout).

I realise there may be land ownership problems meaning they can't connect to another main road, but they need to put in some lights or another roundabout onto Reading Road. It was never planned with any scope for growth and like you said, developers will cram in as many houses as they're legally allowed to, especially down here.

Couple that with councils actively trying to reduce parking in new build estates to get people on to public transport (which they then fail to provide) "because green" and you have double the fun.

Did this morning to "Dan" I know his Dan cause it was his number plate (cretin!)

Outside lane, wouldn't go faster. Wouldn't pull to empty L2

Couldn't be bothered to flash. Sat behind him for 3-4 mins. Pulled to L2 started to go under him. He OF COURSE accelerated. I kept my foot in (the speed limit MAY have been exceeded) and with my car being faster passed him. He flashed like a for a bit. Then backed waaayyy back.

But quite frankly "fk him and everyone he cares about!" These dickless s who think they should be able to block others from overtaking are a fking menace. Right up there with Drunk Driving since you literally can't predict which stupid thing they'll do next.

Always said it. If a faster comes up behind me, I'll move over when I can.

Who knows who the other car is biggrin

Come to Bristol, we have loads of them !
Following a car last night doing 15-20mph in a 30. Not safe to pass, so I hung back. A car pulled out in front of Mr Slow with plenty of room to spare. That brought the red mist down and Mr Slow charged up behind him and drove aggressively behind him for the next 10 mins. I followed in disbelief.
