According to your plan the rear window is still icy, so the rear view mirror becomes redundant. I would argue that seeing behind you is an essential part of safe driving.
What about driving a van? Or a lorry? Or towing a caravan?
But he's not. The poster is driving a car with a rear widow and associated mirror, and avoiding de- icing same.nono

Ahh! The old whatif argument.

What if..
The entire back of his car was covered with dead zombies guts?
Or
An alien had stolen his rear view mirror to check the underside of his spaceship?

So many options!!

Exactly. What benefit is there to just leaving the rear window icy, surely you want to maximize visibility, regardless of the vehicle you're driving. So why wouldn't you de-ice the rear window of your car?

Being a lazy prick or an unprepared one, is not an excuse.

It's not worth getting into a silly internet argument (see above) about it, but if you're saying seeing behind you via the rear window is an essential part of safe driving, driving a van is unsafe, non?

Last chance saloon: Burnzyb is driving a car and does not de-ice his rear window. My posts refer to only him. All other references to vans, caravans, HGV, mobility scooters, horses and roller skates are invalid.

Now, where's that sock drawer that needs sorting!..sleephehe

Another candidate tonight.

Driving along 30mph, normal road. Bit of traffic so maybe 25-30ish.

Up ahead (300-400m) come the flashing blue lights and the wee waars. An ambulance roars into view. Everyone moves to the nearside and the ambulance gets unhindered travel down the white lines.

I say everyone, but not the facebhprick in front of me (Astra IIRC) Who stays with his right wheels on the white lines and only finally jinks out the way when the ambulance is probably 30m from him. Oblivious until it was right on them!

Gut says he/she was looking at mobile!

Is it necessary? Is it dangerous? How do you know I’m a lazy prick? Maybe I’m the complete opposite and in a rush because I’m very busy? It’s not my fault if you can’t drive a van or a car with no rear visibility or rear view mirror so there is no need to take your lack of ability out on someone else.

I don’t know where your wing mirrors are pointing but I have mine so I can see behind me, I will also defrost the rest of the windows whilst driving but to get me going I just clear what windows are necessary.

For the final time, how is it any different to driving a car derived van? where the manufacturer has chosen to remove side and rear windows and the dreaded rear view mirror, I think you need to go straight to the press and put your complaint in about these dangerous cars being manufactured.

Some of us on here clearly have the skill set to drive a vehicle safety without a rear view mirror or visibility out the rear window, just because you don’t hold that skill set don’t jump up and down making it out to be dangerous.

I drive a panel van but also a car so I’m clearly far better than either of you because I can drive with or without a rear view mirror simultaneously

He hit the nail on the head and buried the snowflakes with it. I'd post a link but unable on my phone, it's on YouTube though - search "Stephen fry offensive" or similar, it's very good.

Not car related but Channel 4.

Wanted to watch the latest episode of Hunted whilst eating my dinner. Well, I counted 8 adverts before the show started by which time I’d finished my dinner.

There's no legal requirement for an interior mirror as long as you have both door mirrors intact. It's no different from driving with a large load which blocks the rear screen.

My posts have concentrated on the fact that you do not clear the rear window of YOUR CAR. No other vehicles arr relevant. The posts are about you and the fact that your rear window remains covered in ice.
