I have respect for Hamilton, his achievements and even his views. I still think he is a bellend though.
Why's he a bellend? Yes it probably isn't the most brightest person, but to be a racing driver you don't have to be.
Honestly, I don't know, I just don't like the fella. I don't think he comes across particularly well.

I don't always know why I don't like someone (it's a gut feeling thing), and of course having never met the guy I can't really be sure that if I did it would be no different. If the opportunity ever arose I'd force myself to keep an open mind and give him a chance. Unless or until that point, he'll remain in my bellend book biggrin
LH is an odd one.

I liked him early in his career.

Then he started dressing in daft clothes and talking about the slums of Stevenage. He went down hugely in my opinion.

Then I saw him on the Billy Monger documentary and had clearly put time, thought and money into what was a dark situation. He went up in my opinion.

He's now gone OTT on hairstyle and taking the knee. Starting to head down again.

But the lad can drive. A talent in the racing world. But also a talent for being a bit of an idiot.

there's got to be a valid argument that top class rally drivers are way more talented that F1 drivers any day.

He comes across as devoid of humour and with only limited self awareness. A bit like Andy Murray, I can't root for somebody who seems so unenthusiastic about their craft when interviewed or relied upon to promote the sport, and somebody who has no concept of self deprecation.

I guess I find I can't really relate to him at all. There was the notion in the past that racing drivers were a bit like fighter pilots on the one hand, when the sport was much more dangerous, and also happy to do spanner work on their own vehicles if necessary. These guys were a bit hot blooded, but they lived right on the edge of their abilities and of the technology of the day. Hamilton just seems cool, detached, inarticulate, and is a tax dodger who is happy to live high on the hog. He's just one of the dead-eyed Cheeky Nandos lads from your local Tesco car park cruiser scene who somehow made it big.

Now he comes out of the woodwork, belatedly, to champion a few causes as 'famous black man'. It all seems a bit cynical and contrived.

can i suggest that we agree Lewis is a polarising character and leave it there, as i can't see any minds being changed despite the pages of debate.
I would accept that.

Did you choose your secondary school? I mean, was it REALLY your choice? Where you go to uni, yes, that's on you. But secondary school? That will have been your parents decision, dressed up (at best) as yours. You can't whinge at someone for where they went to school. I went to a grammar school. A good one, single sex, latin lessons, boarding, the lot. Got in on merit, didn't hugely want to go, but was told in no uncertain terms by my folks. Am I not allowed an opinion against them?
Yeah... that's not what happened in this situation, she chose at a young age to ditch her parents & moved in with her grandparents so she could go to a grammar school as the comp she was at was dire.

Both sets of drivers maybe good at their particular chosen sport but it doesn't mean they're better road drivers than others on the roads.

That must be pretty rare, I've never seen it at least.
Starting a sentence with that doesn't make sense anyway..

Trying to buy something on Gumtree for my daughter.
Took 2 emails for the seller to respond. Even then she didn’t answer any of my questions
Took 2 more emails to get another response and again my questions were not addressed. Just basic things like what condition is it in. I have said I can go any time that suits her to collect it.
3 emails later she’s now ignoring me.
The item is £35 or sensible offers. I have offered £30.
Why even bother listing it for sale.
I have no idea why she would bother listing it for sale it’s ridiculous. If she’s sold it just let me know it’s not a problem.

Well you find that everywhere.

You send a message asking 5 questions or making 5 points.
If you’re lucky, you may have one of them acknowledged and then some unrelated drivel to pad it out.
The majority are olympically dim.

She clearly has decided not to sell it but doesn’t have the courtesy / decency to write a simple message saying sorry it’s not for sale. Yet the advert is still in the site. I sell a lot on eBay and if someone writes to me with 3 questions I answer them all.

I think its worse when you ask a polite, detailed question about an item, only to get a one word answer.

and LH will probably be remembered as the best that's has been. .
He wont

For a start there aren't (any?) many multiple world champions who have been beaten over a full season by one teammate (after winning their first title) let alone 2, the car is hugely dominant. Without Hamilton we'd probably have Bottas as a 4 time WDC, a man who struggled to beat a past it Reubens Barichello.

He's good, hes great even. He's never the best

That's what the Race of Champions was for.

That's just odd, then. She disrupted her life in the biggest way possible (ditching your parents is pretty epic for an under-15) so she could go to a grammar school, and then coming out (not like that) against them.

... having gained massive life advantage by going to one. I find it very hard to understand but I guess the concept of pulling the ladder up after you is at play, she's a big social justice warrior so finds it all very unfair. I sometimes think that these people hate themselves so try to stop other people becoming like them or something like that.
