Kept off this site until I could pick my non Sub copy of EVO as I knew someone would drop a spoiler or two. TBF, if you read the advert in question again, it says "Supercar of the Year", not "EVO Car of the year". Experience has taught me that EVO often give spoilers for ECOTY so I just took the mag home and opened it at the first page of the feature.

Anyway, I shall say something positive about it as I really enjoyed the issue. Reminded me of the old ECOTYs. I'm happy with the result and the respective placings. Also really enjoyed the features on past ECOTY winners and runners up, involving Harry Metcalfe and others. Is Jethro back again now?

EVO rightly got a pasting on here last year when the messed up ECOTY. I've been among the most vocal at times on here complaining about the slip in quality over the years, but I really think they've upped their game in recent times, my criticisms a few pages back about inconsistency in road test results not withstanding. This was a fully restored ECOTY, showing the editorial staff had taken on board our criticism after last year, yet still the majority are complaining. As the old saying goes, "there's no pleasing some people".

I noticed last month he did a piece on the Litchfield GTR, and then this month was involved with ECOTY. I suspect he's not back as a staff writer, but will do contributing pieces every now and then.

I'm glad he's back, I enjoy his writing.

Sat down this afternoon (been waiting for a quiet moment) & read the ECOTY & the follow on articles & really enjoyed it.

Photography was sharp and evocative, & the judging was fair & square.

The shot of the exhaust flame should be made into a poster.

Loved the ‘behind the scenes’ with Harry & Ferrari!

A real return to form.

I’m sure you’re reading this EVO, please keep it up.

So picked up the latest issue of the mag's Australian version and I've got to to say I quite enjoyed the ECOTY issue. I haven't brought the mag for a couple of months as not many newsagents carry it. Even applaudable was that they didnt include Fast Fleet (even though it is normally worth reading) and the stats at the back of the mag in favor of more content. Highly enjoyed getting back to tradition with ECOTY, it never should've strayed from last years 'pick a winner from a category' which was bks. That journey of getting such a fantastic group of cars together and taking them somewhere special is one that's looked forward to by a lot of people. I have to say I also got a laugh out of Harry's memories of dealing with Ferrari when the 430 Scuderia didn't win even though it was his pick for that years ECOTY. Tad awkward. smile

If you're reading this-bravo guys I've enjoyed sitting down with a cold beer and riding shotgun through this adventure. Looking forward to the video.

I'll echo what has been said, really enjoyed this years ECOTY, and great that they took the feedback (& criticism) of last years one and have turned it around. My only comment is that it still seemed shorter than ECOTY's of old that seemingly took ages to read, but were superb.

The review of past ones too was fabulous, and seemingly they've granted my wish in the survey of getting back some of the old hands, such as Jethro.

Anyone else fill in the survey, seems like it in conjunction with all the letters and possibly this thread have made a real difference, bravo!?

I'm having to live this vicariously - haven't seen an issue from my subscription since October last year. Dennis subs department is about as helpful as you'd expect - apparently both the Porsche and ECOTY issues are out of print so I'm out of luck.

Just useless

I'd say the last 3/4 issues have actually been the closest to a return to form we've seen for a while, I was very close to cancelling my subs (since issue 14 or so) but am going to keep going a little while longer to see if they can keep it up.

I think it’s more to do with me falling out of love with cars and the negatives on this thread, so i just didn’t bother! I bought the eCOTY issue and was absolutely fantastic! Throughly enjoyed it all, and I’ll be picking the latest issue up today as I’ve got some enthusiasm back.

The content has improved over the last few months, but the mag seems to be getter thinner and thinner.

yes For me, the key thing that attracts me to a magazine such as the current (March?!!) issue is that it contains lots of stories about cars, rather than just purely reviews of cars. I'll never afford the latest Lambo, and whilst reading a review of it is interesting to me, and it represents the backbone of a car magazine like Evo; I actually turn first to the road trip stories, or articles about historic racing cars, or companies involved with interesting cars. I think the latter have been my favourite articles in Evo recently - I really enjoyed reading about the guy who runs old F1 cars, and the two guys rebuilding old American muscle cars. The UK is stuffed full of quirky businesses in sheds like that, and in real life I've loved visiting such places and chatting to them about what they do.

Agreed. Resubscribed over the weekend.

The latest issue does seem a bit thin, but ultimately it's getting back to the sort of magazine that I want to read, not just a load of content that I can easily find online for free.

now if only they could sort their delivery issues for subscribers, it'd be perfect...

Restarting my subscription wasn’t straightforward. I did it online and after a few days called to see what issue it would start with, only they had no record of the order and advised me to call up, which I did. Then I got a further confirmation email saying the first order had gone through after all, so I have two subscriptions at the moment. Farcical.
