Jeff Daniels was massively obese. Probably the only he fitted in comfortably. Ridiculous voting from him.
Fat blokes can't have an opinion , especially if it's not one you share ? That's me screwed then .

Shame given the number of contributing editors that were listed, that they couldn't spell check the feature.
Had to chuckle when I was watching the video. Has a single magazine in history ever had so many "Contributing Editors"? Just shows how much of a club the motoring journalism game is in a way.

Some very talented people involved of course, but you have to feel for new people coming through. Most of the current crop would admit that no one would get the opportunity/support that they got, but it seems that some also don't give much in terms of helping to change that.

I think it's more that, as a journalist offering a professional* opinion, you can't really slate a car that you don't fit in, if you're above the 95th percentile for size. That's a very specific issue which doesn't affect the vast majority of your readership.

* A personal opinion sure. But he was there as a journo, and therefore acting in a professional capacity.

I didn't that say that. Nice try though.

I was quite surprised that the M5 won ECOTY, it was in some pretty serious company. It’s a big old brute in dimensions and heft, although it has generally reviewed well. I just couldn’t spend £140k on one.

I guess the GT3 Touring is unavailable for mere mortals to actually buy so probably isn’t a realistic option for those with the funds. Which is a shame but it’d probably have been my choice; the engine in the Lamborghini is epic but that car looked grim.
Also to be fair, it’s not the first time that an M5 has won an EVO or Performance Car COTY decision and beaten some sportier looking/fast 2 seaters

Or even a big, effortlessly fast, turbo saloon doing very well against a hardcore 911

Remember the Lotus Carlton for example - definitely in the M5 class

Anyone read this months copy?

Richard Porters column - actual WTF?
I usually rate him highly as an entertaining writer, and I know his columns are often slightly 'off the wall', but I couldn't understand this one whatsoever..

Also, 'Life Through a Lens' - was a nice run whilst they went through the first 4 or 5 main Evo photographers *with some interesting stories from Evo days), but now it's boring as hell. sleep

Glad I'm not the only one who was confused by his column. Thought it was an in-joke I was missing.

Same. What a waste of a page, I hope he was embarrassed to submit that.

I rather liked it. A magazine needs a change of pace. I've started reading EVO from cover to cover in sequence, rather than dipping in. It's a good way to read the articles which I would otherwise have skipped.

Many years ago there was a magazine about video cassette recorders which ran competitions. There was a mechanic where you had to find sentences in the text and write the page number for that sentence on a coupon and then post the coupon in. It meant I read all the articles which in turn led me to enjoy the magazine more. I purloined the idea for magazines I worked on.

This means I even read the endless 911 stuff. Actually i do that to get angry. This month the 911 is reviewed with terms like "slack-jawed" and yet it still gets five stars.

But reading the whole magazine is the way to get the most out of it.

Agreed. It's consciously well written and the photography of course is brilliant.

Still love to know what Porter was on about though. Anyone know?

Crikey, I stumbled across this thread and, as as former subscriber, thought "I'd better check that out, I wonder what *is* happening at EVO magazine". Then went back to page 1 to find out when it started...and discovered I'd started it in 2017
