Hi,

Anyone else puzzled by the delay to this months issue ?
Apparently it was due to some embargoed content, my copy arrived this morning and due to the delay I was expecting something exciting, but nope unless a US spec Integra or the new Panamera is the earth shattering content that was being held back ?

Just watched the Harry Metcalfe review of taking the McLaren 570S to the South of France. Christ does he have a nice life! Brilliant review though. We are far better served in the YouTube era than we ever were in the car magazine era.

Nothing about the DB12 Convertible? That embargo ended today

911 ‘special issue’ for a change …..

Every single time EVO has the audacity to do a feature about the worlds most popular sportscar some wag comes up with stuff like this rolleyes And yet, the last time a 911 was the sole cover feature was the December 2022 issue....scratchchin

Fair enough, but by comparison, when was the last time either Lotus or McLaren were the sole cover feature? Answer: August 2018 (or April 2019, which featured a Lotus AND a McLaren)....bit odd that don't you think, for a UK magazine supposedly promoting "the thrill of driving" laugh

Covers matter of course in terms of sales and the likelihood is that a 911 will, on the whole, get more sales than a Lotus, McLaren or pretty much anything else.

How many new Lotuses have there been to report on in that time period compared to new Porsches?

It's always a "new" Aston Martin, and rarely anything groundbreaking enough to justify the delay.

Exactly. The thrill of charging up a SUV... wink

Slightly disingenuous but I accept you're using the word 'sole'. Emira was prime feature and main headline car on the July 2022 cover; the lack of Mac is slightly surprising given they've not been shy of producing new models...

Valedictory column from Jethro this month, with a possible hint that Autovia buying the magazine might be connected to his departure.

Sad news if true, he's one of the valued old hands.

Had to laugh at the comment below his article - reads like a dig/pisstake:

Also, at the same time the magazine plopped on my doormat today, so did a letter: from EVO, informing of yet another price increase.
I have every issue of EVO in my bookcase (except #1 & #3) but nows the time to cancel the subscription I think.

Quite. Haven't read it but if that's the undercurrent it'd be a shame; why buy something then move on one of the best members of the team?

Got the same letter yesterday. The increase now means I save a full 3p per (paper) issue but I do get the digital for ‘free’ - although I never, ever look at it.

All things considered, I think I’ll be cancelling EVO after many, many years as a subscriber.

Have you factored in the big price rise in the paper copy last month?

How much is a sub now? I looked on their website and there are at least four different prices shown for the same thing on different pages. Very confusing, and I've no idea if that's up to date with the latest rises. One page says the cover RRP is 4.99, so I suspect it hasn't been updated in a while.

I haven't got the letter here with me right now, but this is based on their own information printed in the letter. I'm pretty sure it said something along the lines of; 'after the increase of your next Direct Debit, you will pay £6.67 per issue instead of the retail price of £6.70 per issue with the digital content included in this price.'

Wow, I've subscribed for so long that I've neve bothered to look at the price. At over £6 an issue I'm just not getting value for money. The issue landed on my door mat yesterday and in previous years I'd have had a bit of excitement but it sat on the door mat until late evening. Most of my content is now on socials and online.

It must be a terrible time to be a magazine producer, the single issue costs are now pushing them beyond impulse purchases.

Let alone the fact that brand new cars are offering very little of interest - it is no coincidence that recent issues of EVO are featuring more 'modern classics' (articles on old 911s, Mercedes and Mini R53 in the current issue - and an article on an old Indycar you would expect to see in Motorsport or Octane).
