To each their own I guess, and I’m glad you didn’t take my post as arsey because it wasn’t meant that way I was really interested in what you had against the new spec - I’m not sure why but I couldn’t find a 2017 for less than 31999 which is why I thought the new one a bit of a bargain tbh, I’m not 100% sure what my thoughts would have been if I had been able to get one for less than 30.. Incidentally I was probably one of the last to actually get one, I was kept waiting for over a week while they weeded out shady dealers buying them to put on their forecourts at mega markups (I guess) - they said there was over 1000 orders sent in between the 1st and the 5th when mine was sent in, I’m guessing most of which were the dealers trying to get them for later on.. I’ll be interested to find out what number mine is!

I am sure I was told to keep below 4000 revs for first 1000 miles.Would recommend an oil change at 5-6000 miles as well.
Seems to be what is recommended in the US.
My STi certainly loosened up after the oil change and now at 10,000 miles is much smoother.
I kept mine below 4k for most of the 1k miles and slowly eased it up a little more after about 900. I also opted to have an oil change at 1k just to check for my own piece of mind if there was anything untoward in it. The 2.5 unit is said to be a little fragile so I just thought better safe than sorry.

No problem dude. RE the pricing, like I say I used carwow to get a good price for mine, played a few dealers off eachother - but this isnt an option anymore as the car is end of line. I recall the same happening when they announced they werent selling the previous gen anymore. Subaru say you should keep the engine below 4000rpm in the first 1000 miles on the USA manual, what does yours say?
Don't take it too easy on the car, all you are doing when you bed it in is taking off the localised high spots on the mechanical components that generate localised high heat zones, that will all be done by now.
My own philosophy is to have a very short bed in period, using short bursts of load followed by longer cooling periods of light load, this will bed the thing in properly in a matter of a few miles, but it scares most people to do that. The most critical component in this isn't the engine, it's the crown wheel and pinion in the gearbox and rear diff, those are the parts that have the most prominent high heat spots that get flattened out during bedding.
My record for bedding in a new Subaru is 27 hours from picking it up, it was back at the dealers the next day with 1172 miles on it.

Yes the manual gives the usual running in advice. I drive normally just keeping the revs below 4000, stick to around half throttle and never labouring the engine.
I'll get the oil and filter changed at 1000. The mileage I'll be doing will mean the annual change will be around the 4-5k mark anyway.

The dealer I bought my 2012 saloon from has contacted me this week, trying to flog me a new car. Very attractive PCP with a £3k contribution etc. - but it's not a final edition, it's just a regular car 
He's given me the patter now, telling me that I'd definitely know I'd changed sitting in the 2017 car and the FE is only bigger wheels and tweak to the spec. I guess it is, in a sense but it's going to have much stronger residuals, be more fun to drive hard with the 6 pot brakes, looks better with the wheels and revised bumper etc. It would be a stretch to buy a new one but I could justify it for an FE. There's no chance in hell I'd buy a regular car brand new now.
I suspect that will be many other peoples' attitudes too and there will be even bigger bargains to be had on those shortly.

Agreed, I wouldn't look twice at a 2017 spec one now, unless they dropped the price massively (which it sounds like they may be trying) but also I would be worried what sort of miles they had on them, the dealer that I went in to was using their 2017 as a demo car but still selling it as brand new so.. :s I ragged on it a bit trying it out so I'm sure others would have too!
