RE: Goodbye STI - Subaru calls time on the WRX

The STI is nowhere near as usable as a Focus RS or a Golf R, people want fuel economy and a reasonable tax bracket when they choose a car these days, even in this type of car. Plus both of these are slightly cheaper, and I'd have thought cheaper to service and repair.
Bear in mind that any car probably spends at least half it's time pootling along in traffic then 35-40mpg has it's appeal, regardless of how much better a car is on the limit. Economy is much less of an issue in Aus or Merica for obvious reasons.
Have to correct you there having owned an RS Mk3 and an STi as well as having driven two Golf R’s.Bear in mind that any car probably spends at least half it's time pootling along in traffic then 35-40mpg has it's appeal, regardless of how much better a car is on the limit. The Focus has just as hard a ride, a dated looking entertainment system, next to zero boot space and very little room in the rear - not great when you have young un’s.
In short a mildly tuned Subaru feels a damn site more raw than my old Mountune’d RS, and the Golf Just felt plodding as it’s clearly geared for top end and motorway not overtaking. In manual form at least.
The Golf or Focus AWD are also unlikely to perform anywhere near as well as the Subaru or Evo equivalents either as they don’t have permanent AWD and LSD’s fitted as standard.
As a warm runner to the shops theyre great tho...

They must be coming in batches then and I did wonder how there was still a colour choice if they were already on the way. Presumably as I ordered so early mine will be in the first batch.
Ahh that makes sense as the dealer had a list of colours that were left. We're you offered any optional extras as seems not many or none at all except colours and Mats :-)warch said:

I mean, I cant claim to speak from a true position of expertise, only having daily driven a '66 WRX STI for a year, covering 16.5k miles. Previouly owned Scirocco's (Golf chassis) and a Focus ST.
I just finished my drive to work today and achieved 32mpg. Suits me! The car has cost me a couple of hundred quid for maintenance so far, including optional oil changes. Tax is high but Im paying that monthly so whatever. Fuel is expensive I suppose (99 RON+ only), but I have a shell card and a tesco card so they help out in little increments.
Say what you like about 'on the limit' and whatever - I have no shame in admitting that I dont drive the car at 10/10ths, because its not safe to do that on public roads, I can drive the car at 6-7 (or less) and still find it a joy, and still find it feels like absolutely nothing else you can buy in any showroom today.
For the money I had to spend when I bought this I looked at fast Audis, fast Fords, fast BMs, fast VWs, blah blah. Nothing feels like an STI. And it works every day, counter to these 'unwieldy beast' arguments.

I had 2 Subarus in the late 90s. One UK Turbo, the other an STI Type R Import. They are/were less polished than their German alternatives, far more personality and felt more special. At the time, they were faster too, but always felt far faster still.
Their pull is not dissimilar to the pull of an Alfa QV over a BMW or Merc. It's intangible and just more special. The Germans are just a bit safe.

I think you can have any of the normal accessories as they are all dealer-fit anyway. Note that premium mats are standard. I've not asked for anything. There's a rear camera so no need for parking sensors if you like them. I might get a boot liner to keep the carpet pristine in the unlikely event I put anything in there. The one thing I would have liked is the SD card navigation system which is standard on the Forester XT, unfortunately there is no option for this.

Are there any left, because I have to say I'm very tempted to order one as my first ever new car...
Looks like it stillhttps://www.subaru.co.uk/performance
Very sad. Having owned five Imprezas, one a Prodrive RB5, a Prodrive widetrack STi since 1998 and currently a 2015 WRX STi, nothing in my view approaches the sheer thrill of driving these machines. Noise and lack of suspension not an issue! Hopefully will keep the STi for another 10 years plus, if not banned for emissions... By then I will be 80!!! Don't fancy a Kia Picanto...

Not a bad car to drive at 20 down a 40 zone wit your left indicator on It's this or a Rover 75, you chose well. daemon said:
So they can hype another "Final Edition" three years later?
Oooh! Cynical! They're right in that it's the final old-school ICE, manual box, hydraulic steering STI that'll be sold here. Cars like that won't exist in Europe soon, a few niche small manufacturers aside. If things continue in the same direction the same will be true worldwide. Enjoy it while you can!

That'll be a hybrid so it won't be a manual box.
#Not according to some reports...

Well i do recall a big announcement a number of years ago that they were no longer bringing STis to the UK, and then they quietly started bringing them in again.
