So, forgive me if I am wrong.
Hamilton wins 4th World title.
M Sport, a private, non works team, wins WRC manufacturers top slot.
M Sport's Sebastien Ogier wins WRC Championship.
Elfyn Evans, also M Sport, wins Rally GB in Wales. First Brit since 2000 - McCrae.

So why no news item on the front page of PH - or did I miss it?

Hello!

Apologies for the delay on responding, I'd actually been allowed some time off so this wasn't being checked!

As well as being a staff member down, the simple fact is that motorsport isn't particularly well received on PH. We ran regular 'Motorsport on Monday' features for a good while a few years back and they never received the response we would have liked given the time and effort that went into them. This season review MoM from 2015 only attracted four comments from users:

I appreciate this year is different in terms of Brit success, but with limited resources motorsport is something we're only going to cover in exceptional circumstances I think.

Thanks,

Matt

How utterly depressing.

I used to really like reading the MoM reports. I'd much rather be reading about (and seeing) reports on motorsport than yet another German cookie cutter sports hyper hatchback on the frontpage. Shame that I'm obviously in a minority.

There needs to be a PBDC (powerfully built director championship), imagine it like talladega nights but with Golf Rs. Sure that would peak some interest laugh

People like different things. Just because someone might a petrol head/car enthusiast, that doesn't instantly mean that they have to be into any/all motorsport stuff.

I can understand that it's very frustrating to those that do, like yourself, but if the majority ain't gonna care or won't want to read/discuss it, then it's just a colossal waste of time.

And this isn't exceptional?
Really?
Limited rescources? How much does it cost to write an article? I am sure M Sport would be very happy to supply material and an interview with Malcolm Wilson.

Strange isn't it... despite being very active on this site for more than a decade, I don't even look at the front page, for me PH is a forum only, and the only articles I read are those where I see the title within the forum and link in that way.

Sadly I think Matt's point is probably pretty valid, motorsport in general is going through a bad time in the UK at the moment (with the possible exception of F1) and until that changes the widespread interest just isn't there

Imagine the excitement of watching the arguments over track etiquette and who threw red bull at who even before racing laugh

Bloody hell I did not know that! I'm feeling somewhat ashamed and embarrassed, and old, now. frown

Following the RAC Rally around Wales or oop North used to be a highlight of my year. I used to spend hours and hours plotting what stages to see and how to get to and from. The roads in between were almost like stages themselves, with spectators driving flat out en masse, whilst the rally cars overtook us. (And there'd be 200 of 'em back then!).

They were absolutely fabulous days (and nights). To paraphrase someone (Carlos Sainz, I think), an international rally used to have the capacity to paralyse a country, now hardly anyone knows they're on. :sob:

I expect that PH staff would welcome your literary contribution. I look forward to reading your articles in the very near future. Unless they're on motorsport as I'm not so fussed about reading about that.

Club rallying yes maybe but club motorsport is doing well healthy grids in most series and there isn't a weekend that there isn't anything going on. Btcc the top uk series is doing incredible well atm 8hrs of live coverage as well as high track attendees too. Capacity grids in the btcc and support races likes of Clio cup ginetta formula ford and Porsche also extremely healthy. Brit gt also have capacity grid along with a good support line out. There is a brand new touring car series starting next year tcr uk which is showing high promise for good grid along with a good support package from the brscc. Not only that but hill climbs and sprinting is still extremely popular along with series like time attack etc.

To say motorsport in uk is bad is complete rubbish its doing incredible well.
