Why is the estate faster at top speed? Would have thought the weight would make it slightly slower.
Quite common with estates I believe (remember Fabia vRS estate) something to do with less drag from the rear end but someone may come along and correct me.
With regards to the MK2 Fabia VRS you’re 100% correct - it was only 1 or 2 mph but it all counts

I HATE the sound of these twin clutch fart boxes and an Akropovic exhaust won't help things. All I hear on the streets is FART, FART, FART, FART, FART while some idiot flaps his way through all the gears to 30mph in the most antisocial way possible. A class AMG is another culprit too.
I have to agree with you on that. The exhaust makes a ridiculous farting type sound.

A £3k exhaust on a £30k car seems like a lot.
For a valve'd Akrapovic it's about right. Roughly same cost as a cat back "slip-on" system for my E92 M3.

http://www.bramleyperformance.com/Part/1871/Akrapo...

£1472 + £954 = £2426 for a non valve'd cat back.

One thing that the article has missed is the optional extra to add on another 4 chrome exhausts tails on either side to bring it up to the required 8 for race mode.

absolutely nuts that for ~£5k worth of tuning you can get the 0-60 down to near 2.9 seconds on these cars
supercar performance for the people!

168MPH in a Golf Estate!! That's just amazing. I thought £40K for a Golf was bonkers, but this Golf is not longer just a wee quick hatchback. It's a proper high speed do it all weapon for the road.
I'd love to see a Ferrari 355 v one of these head to head to see the differences time has made

Worth noting that the exhaust isn’t available on the estate.

Even as a diehard VW fan, these upgrades look stupidly expensive.
performance packs are the latest way to get even more money out of buyers

Yes but what difference do they make to the monthlies......
Slow clap.
I've never understood the cynicism directed towards the Golf R in particular regarding lease deals etc. If it allows more people access to what they want that can't be a bad thing can it? It's not as if we're all being forced to have one for crissakes.

rolleyes

Because all you Type R /RS owners buy your cars for cash I suppose?

Said a little tongue in cheek - perhaps the omission of a winking emoji made the difference. Either way it is a question that will be asked (and that is not intended in an offensive way, rather factual)

The M3 isn't/wasn't a £30k car.

Doesn't really matter does it? You're buying the same thing...Akrapovic are expensive, take it or leave it.

Either they sell at reasonable markup for all cars or they raise the price of the expensive car exhausts just to meet some arbitrary "%age of RRP" acceptance?

Rawwr's point was a £3k exhaust on a £30k car. The BMW example was a £2.5k exhaust on a £60k car. I know a guy that put a £20k exhaust on an Aventador.

Do you have a goatee beard and powerfully built?

Never said whether it is good or bad, charity or business. Just a statement of the actuality.

VW is trying to bump up profit by expensive extras.

Indeed, you are stating the bleeding obvious. Expensive is subjective. Expensive for you, might not be for someone else.
