"Luckily the Performance Pack is only available for the DSG version of the car, so all you manual-owning PHers needn't worry about feeling tempted to splurge"
guess you don't like the interaction of manual cars, Mr journalist - no wonder they are dying out.
I just configured the Performance Pack and exhaust with the manual box...guess you don't like the interaction of manual cars, Mr journalist - no wonder they are dying out.

Indeed, you are stating the bleeding obvious. Expensive is subjective. Expensive for you, might not be for someone else.
Expensive is an objective fact. They're charging ~£5k for some bolt-on tat available at lower prices elsewhere. You might consider an Akra 3/25 Ti exhaust as tat, some don't. You certainly won't save much by buying separately.
Some people may prefer the peace of mind of keeping the warranty and don't like aftermarket stuff, hence the very subjectivity. It's about choice.

What performance do you get with this exhaust!
0 bhp increase and 7kg weight advantage, that's all!
If you was getting around 20 bhp more then I can understand why you should get one, but at the moment you are paying for a quality exhaust that just gives you extra noise.
"sport exhaust" on mclarens, porsches and ferraris generally costs st loads and doesn't give you any more power but people buy them0 bhp increase and 7kg weight advantage, that's all!

there's so many better aftermarket options for the golf though, you'd be mad imo

Even Porsche will sell you a sports exhaust for less than £3K - not titanium or Akrapovic though - maybe VW are learning from the best.
Akrapovic is the magic word. There is a reason why it's so expensive. It's the best exhaust manufacturer in the world. By a mile. JMF894 said:
I've never understood the cynicism directed towards the Golf R in particular regarding lease deals etc. If it allows more people access to what they want that can't be a bad thing can it? It's not as if we're all being forced to have one for crissakes.
Because all you Type R /RS owners buy your cars for cash I suppose?
For my £36,000 golf estate I pay the princely sum of £159+vat per month for 2 years. £2,000 deposit. It’s a steal. Because all you Type R /RS owners buy your cars for cash I suppose?

try Kreisseg for that formula one sound, but the $5k bill makes the Akrapovic look cheap as well.http://kreissieg.ocnk.net/product/343 (youtube video on page too)

Or you could forego the PP, get the lighter better looking (IMHO) Pretorias, and then pay VW £500 to replace the front discs and pads with the Clubsport S set up (which I believe is the same as the PP).
Having ruined my brakes over a few trackdays, my R is in for the Clubsport S upgrade tomorrow...
Friend of mine has had this done - the VW pads in the upgrade still aren't up to track use, stick to short stints and you may be OK but his overheated and glazed. I'd suggest you look for a more track focused pad.Having ruined my brakes over a few trackdays, my R is in for the Clubsport S upgrade tomorrow...
They fit fine under the 18" wheels, so assuming the PP is the same that's not an issue.
