These threads really do bring out the worst in people
You are dead right!!! What does it all really matter! People getting so worked up about something that they are not forced to pay for. You would swear it was a tax increase or something! Pumpsmynads said:

I've never understood the cynicism directed towards the Golf R in particular regarding lease deals etc. If it allows more people access to what they want that can't be a bad thing can it? It's not as if we're all being forced to have one for crissakes.
Because all you Type R /RS owners buy your cars for cash I suppose?
For my £36,000 golf estate I pay the princely sum of £159+vat per month for 2 years. £2,000 deposit. It’s a steal. Because all you Type R /RS owners buy your cars for cash I suppose?

I'd also be interested to know why you can't tow in them either!
Because VW never submitted or tested them for towing homologation. It's not illegal to fit them with a towbar, so you could have one for bike rack purposes for example, you'd just be in bother if you got caught dragging a trailer or caravan.Escort Si-130 said:
I have to agree with you on that. The exhaust makes a ridiculous farting type sound.
Agreed, I'm driving one now and am embarrassed about that stupid exhaust note, although you only hear it when making good progress and then you are likely to be away from most people. LateStarter said:

Is the Akrapovic exhaust switchable on/off? I think these types of exhausts are the best all-round solution. As enthusiastic petrol/pistonheads surely the noise that we get to hear from our cars is important to us? Of course, it's better if it's not manufactured as such, but isn't that what manufacturers do anyway with their exhaust systems? Ti Akrapovic exhausts are actually a thing of beauty, where one can admire things like the welding, the reduction in weight and the appearance of the thing. £3k is a lot of money but it's an option I would be very tempted to tick were I to buy one.
As a Scirocco R driver, this PP equipped Golf R is right on my radar. I think it looks great and will go great. I've always thought the Golf's are the best real world cars on sale.
