How much does your car cost per month?
Discussion
My Daily PD130 Mk4 Golf
paid £300 3 years ago
Insurance is £23 pm
Tax is £12 pm
I get free oil so i oil change every 3-4 months so only costs me filters about £4 a time.
Does 50+ MPG
I run it on steel wheels, i break golf's audi's now and again and i keep the spare wheels and use the tyres for my daily so have never paid for tyres on it.
ive put a clutch on it £42 after my £35 remap killed the original clutch
260,000 miles and still going strong :-)

So many depreciation free cars being run
neither of my 2 cars are depreciating.. one is probably appreciating.daily is a toyota crown jzs171, engine alone is worth more than I paid for the car.
toy is a honda s2000 with under 35k miles in great condition.. appreciating if anything.
overall for me both cars -;
tax - £60/month
insurance - £80/month
fuel - £250-£300/month
maintance/fixing - both been reliable but I'd say around £100/month overall
V8V - I’ve had it 36 months now ...
Payment per month - £0
Tax - £57 (sorn at the mo)
Insurance - multi car so around £55
Servicing / running costs - I put £250 a month away
Depreciation - £400 averaged out
Fuel - no idea
All for 2k miles pa!
Two other cars cost about £400 pm all in and my new 8 series is £365 exc fuel.
Long time dead and I’m not driving a rubbish car, too much enjoyment and here in N Wales we don’t have traffic problems and some fantastic roads!

Ah, but mine is a company car so already has 100% written off against tax in the year I bought it. Come to think of it, the £220 per month running cost is also allowable expenses so the real cost, all-in, of running the BMW i8 is about £110 a month, or £3.50 per day! That comes in at £1300 a year, over 4k miles.
Ours cost next to nothing for now but that is likely to change when the Lexus is replaced. (Or taken out of normal use)
Lexus - Paid for several years ago.
Insurance £450 a year fully comp.
No road tax where it's registered.
28mpg average on LPG @40p per litre
Service once a year is around £300
2 sets of tyres every 3 years £600 a set
Currently due a set of discs and pads and ARB bushes so around £400 fitted.
Volvo XC90 3.2
This one goes through the business on a lease (we keep it at the end)
"Paid" 88k PLN (around £17k at the time) £5k down and £260 per month for 48 months.
Monthly payments are 100% tax deductible as are all other running costs.
Averaging 25mpg on LPG
Maintenance wise it needs 2 services a year, (£300 each)
There's usually something wrong with the hateful piece of st so on average around £100 in repairs
£1000 for insurance
(£6k or so a year for the Volvo + fuel)
(£1500 or so a year for the Lexus + fuel)
I'm not putting what I've spent on the Hymer in writing as it would be disturbing and if my wife ever by any small chance finds this thread she may get slightly angry
I've ever actually worked out what we spend on vehicles however looking at the above does put it into perspective just how much a "financed" vehicle costs per year compared to a non financed one. If it was coming out of my pocket as opposed to our businesses pocket there would be very little sense in going down that route.

However....the car payment is a family loan I could settle now but choose not to. So really , £175 ish which is great.
Not quite, it is still depreciating, so that would need to be added in. I paid my cars finance off as I decided it was a keeper, but it has still dropped from £13250 to £10000 (£9400 with WBAC) over the year, so lost £270 a month at least.
Funny thing is, the finance was only costing me £240 a month.
However, as it gets older that depreciation will be less and less each year, finance just spreads it over the time you want to keep the car.

Ford Focus ST MK3 estate, bought at 2 years old
Monthly average depreciation based on probable value if sold tomorrow - £130, but will flatten out further.
Insurance - £24
Tax - £19
Fuel - £125 (not during huge mileage at the moment - AVE around 29mpg)
MOT - £50/12 = 4.16
Servicing and tyres = £25 (routine servicing only so far, plus a set of tyres)
Average monthly £327
Annual £3,924
Fairly happy with the running costs - though nothing has gone wrong so far in 2.5 years...
To be fair if I was doing more miles it would cost a fair bit more.
Another 2 and a bit years on - same car.Monthly average depreciation based on probable value if sold tomorrow - £130, but will flatten out further.

Interestingly depreciation has remained fairly constant, but bills have started to increase!
Monthly average depreciation based on probable value if sold tomorrow - approx. £116
Insurance - £24
Tax - £20
Fuel - £125 (not during huge mileage at the moment - AVE around 29mpg)
MOT - £50/12 = 4.16
Servicing and tyres = £42 (big bill last year has pushed it up a bit)
Average monthly £331 (+£4)
Annual £3,973 (+£50)

Is the right fking answer - Life is too short to drive a prius or skoda (I did like the skoda)
Exactly. My mate loves cars, we grew up together having cossies & the like years ago but now he’ll worry about fuel economy and costs when buying when he drives it once or twice a week (van every day) The bloke’s relatively loaded (to the point he’s always got money to buy £10k mountain bikes cash etc), single, owns his house outright and has no kids to leave his money to yet when considering a GTR he was too worried about running costs.
Guess you can have a good headstone though eh!

Sounds like he has completely failed at this game called life! The bloke’s relatively loaded (to the point he’s always got money to buy £10k mountain bikes cash etc), single, owns his house outright

It all comes down to getting the balance right. I want to retire early, but at the same time, I want to have fun now too. Bit of a push-pull scenario, or devil on one shoulder, angel on the other

On the other hand- he might be planning to retire at 55 or something....then who's winning?

Loaded, can drop £10000 on a mountain bike whenever, house paid off.
I don't think it is he who is the fool.

Was having this argument with my mate. Keeps telling me to get a new car to save fuel bill.
I do 25k miles a year. If I get a new car depreciation would be massive.
Anyway last year calculated.
Saab 9-3 aero petrol costing me about £500 a month all in.
0.24ppm.
Paid £500 for it 2.5 years ago.

I just updated line 38 after spending some money on the car.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ARUrS7YaFM...
2014 BMW 120d brought in January 2018
Brought for: £10,700 (at 37,650 miles)
Insurance: £32.58 per month
Tax: £2.50 per month
Service & Maintenance: £1,087.92 / 25 = £43.52 per month - this covers everything from new wipers to services.
Fuel over 30,226miles at 53.12 MPG = 3,447.86 / 25 = £137.91 per month
£216.91 per month without depreciation or 17.9ppm.
Including depreciation and assuming a value of £8,000 now (£2,700) = £108 per month
£324.91 per month without depreciation or ppm or 26.87ppm.
I'll not be adding XC70...
