Are you certain that a properly-engineered electric car is so capricious a use of resources?

The battery array in a Tesla is designed to be replaced. An old battery is variously recycled and rebuilt.

And with regenerative braking, the brake pads and discs last for many years. There are no fluids, filters, ignition components, exhaust components, etc., to service. There will be no clutch or transmission work and no engine rebuild.

Imagine: Consumables no longer need to be manufactured, distributed, installed, removed, and disposed of.

Within the OECD, fossil fuels account for only 58 percent of electricity production. And this figure is in decline. 58 percent (source of electricity) is lower than 100 percent (source of petrol). If we allow for electricity production from natural gas (a relatively clean fossil fuel), the maths in favour of electric cars as well as our environment are even more profound.

Same old bullst on this site.

There's a model S with 300,000kms on at 93 percent battery that should easily do a million kilometres.

It's been used as a taxi, fast charged a lot and generally treated in the worst way.

How many of your cars have done 300,000 kms?

Don't see how it's relevant whether he's taken cars up to that mileage or not? I'm positive any modern car would do that with no real issue.

very few cars do more than 200,000 miles.

the average in the uk is 125,000 miles

his point is, well, pointless

My 540i is past 350,000km and feels as tight as a drum. I'm sure it'll present me with some fairly frightening bills in due course, but nothing that isn't repairable. Talk to me when a Tesla survives 15 years of the daily grind...

Lot of absolute bell ringers on here. All very Daily Mail.

My 1999 C Class estate hit 180k before making her way to heaven. I then made the jump to EV. Had our Leaf over 3 years now, commuting 70 miles a day approximately 3 days a week over that period. It really is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’ll never go back to ICE for a daily - I’d even loathe going Hybrid now too.

I look at Tesla, Nissan and other EV makers with nothing but hope and admiration... the future of Speed is secure. Furthermore, the savings on fuel I squirreled away these last few years massively assisted me saving for my R32 Skyline. Another reason I see EVs as nothing other than progressive brilliance.

Indeed - I had a brief play with a basic Tesla yesterday: fabulous machine, although I did wonder whether the lack of drama would start to pale. For the mway slogs I have to do, can't think of anything better.
