As we know, list prices are pretty meaningless. The discounted price is more relevant, and I'd wager you'll get more off a SEAT than you will a VW.
Then there's the PCP/Lease pricing can of worms to think about.
Probably true but the max you could ever expect I would think is 18% if it was dealer and manufacturer supported. It would have to be a model they really wanted to shift. This is a new model so you are unlikely to get much of a discount I would have thought. Then there's the PCP/Lease pricing can of worms to think about.
So, 25 grand or less for a new one from a broker, 500 on a remap, 100 on a laser alignment if you fancy a bit of additional camber ?
They have to do more than this if they want to price a FWD Golf R equivalent at more than a Golf R, aspirations to take it upmarket are only that unless the market agrees, and currently they are a budget alternative to a Golf R or S3, great at 25k but 35 ?

This actual model doesn’t make sense to me either, and I’ve got a regular 300...
It’s a great car, ultimately a cut price S3 7R etc.
For someone like me who likes something a bit different, not assed about image etc they make perfect sense.
24 cars at 35k would work imo if it did lose the back seats, had 350hp or similar... but this seems a bit half arsed.

As others have said, the Cupra brand doesn't have enough cachet for this to stick, so unless dynamically the car makes the Sub-8 look like a shopping trolley, these will have all the residual-value performance of a poverty-spec Insignia painted in a particularly violent shade of green.
...which suggests that the "limited to 24 cars" is because they've realised that there aren't 25 people in the world dumb enough to buy it.
PS - interior on the Leon is a real let-down vs its 3 other-brand siblings - at that price buyers may well expect a nice place to be, regardless of # of toys...

Agreed. I think after the original they went downhill interior wise. The original was literally just an Audi S3/A3 Interior. sh33n said:

Would anyone spend £35k on one of these over a Golf R / Type R / M140i ? A Seat enthusiast ? Do you get Seat enthusiasts ?
Yes, there's exactly 24 of them I know a bloke who's like this with VAG era Skodas, he's never owned anything else but will utterly rubbish anything (even other VAG stuff). If they made a Skoda version of this he'd be down there with his credit card tomorrow.
ETA - Article was very nearly unintelligible PH, it reads like you copied it from a foreign language SEAT press release, ran it through Google translate, and then pasted it here without bothering to read it first.

Skoda might be a bit different - they do have a USP being the value brand of the Group, but Seat don't really have a USP (once perhaps with the Rally crowd with the original late 90's Ibiza Cupras), but not any more. What is a Seat for?
For everyone else, they are well aware of VW and Audi, so their monthly PCP payments are very likely to head towards one of those products.
Can't see the lease deals being anywhere near as good as the Golf R which means you'll probably have to buy one for it to make any mathematical sense. You then have to ask who the hell will choose a Seat when they've got £35k to spend on something fast and fun. We all know what you can get for £35k and most things are a lot more desirable than this.
What is going on with that tat stuck on the rear bumper?
The mk1 Cupra-R was good because it was a fair bit different from the Cupra and reasonably priced but this is just an ugly version of cupra without the extra 45bhp for over £5k more.
Pointless.

I'm a happy Cupra owner.
I don't care much about brand.
Don't get criticism on the interior, it's a lot better than previous Seats and ergonomically sound, more so than other VAG siblings. It even has chrome edges but doesn't have the shiny black plastic of the Golf. Really don't get it, certainly wouldn't pay many thousand more for, in my eyes, very similar interiors. And S class or Panamera, that is something else, but those cars are heavy like f-word.
I personally think the, Spanish, exterior styling is much sharper and better looking than the Golf which I find very boring. Especially the estate ST compared to the Golf estate.
They are the sporty brand, and imho are actually the best set up, VW is more mainstream, Audi is even more disconnected. Not as sharp as an FRS or Type R, the remaining broad ability with daily comfort remains part of the appeal.
Usually it's, for the hardware provided - the platform, the cheapest way into the VAG parts bin. And the lightest. Stuff I do care about, contrary to what I imagine other people may think of the badge I chose. In my case it was 5k less than the not comparable Golf that comes with Haldex and auto box, things I didn't want. The closest Audi equivalent would be the S3 Sedan, again auto box and haldex 4wd, and a real 15k more. Where does that money go? Other than a nicer sounding exhaust and a bit better interior quality, 5k tops, I wouldn't really know.
This Cupra R though does make me wonder, only makes sense if you like that styling, rims, colours and equipment. I really don't, I prefer the stylish, anonymous look, I even debadged mine.
I summary, for me it was a win win win win on the above points. But it's my first Seat and I'm not brand loyal at all, when time comes to buy the next, I'll just go with whatever fits our situation and fullfills my basic demands for driver enjoyment best.

My sentiments exactly. What exactly is the point in Seat??
If VAG had any sense they'd place it more as a German version of Ford. The sports models could inject some pizzazz into the VAG lineup, go a bit crazy with the aero and arches, a bit of noise etc. Right now it's just cut price VW.Get a grip. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Just because it doesn't appeal to this forum, doesn't mean it won't sell.
