I know because VAG are so lacking in sales aren't they?
Get a grip. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Just because it doesn't appeal to this forum, doesn't mean it won't sell.
You know, you're right... every time I look out of the window I see a sea of Leons! Obviously SEAT is absolutely maximising CUPRA sales at the moment...Get a grip. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Just because it doesn't appeal to this forum, doesn't mean it won't sell.

If VAG had any sense they'd place it more as a German version of Ford. The sports models could inject some pizzazz into the VAG lineup, go a bit crazy with the aero and arches, a bit of noise etc. Right now it's just cut price VW.
There's nothing wrong with a cut-price Audi/VW, if Skoda had an equally hot hatch it'd fly out the dealerships. Also - here's a financial report which shows each Seat is actually more profitable to the company than each VW or Audi sold, at least as of 2016.
Makes sense for the buyer, makes sense for VAG.

I don't doubt they're doing well, but the point is they could be doing better. The halo models lack identity, VAG would sell more if they placed performance SEAT models as a less restrained and more exciting branch of the company imo. Also - here's a financial report which shows each Seat is actually more profitable to the company than each VW or Audi sold, at least as of 2016.

Your maths is wrong (ignoring that you can't really use Operating Profit per unit sold as a measure):-Also - here's a financial report which shows each Seat is actually more profitable to the company than each VW or Audi sold, at least as of 2016.
VW ~ €0.43k / unit
Audi ~ €3.16k / unit
Skoda ~ €1.47k / unit
SEAT ~ €0.28k / unit
What surprises me there is the Skoda vs VW result - too many variables that could contribute, inc. transfer pricing, but Skoda are a far better brand for VAG's bottom line than SEAT.

"Naff advertorial" sums it up really.
We all know that VWs are cheap Audis, SEATs are cheap VWs and Skodas are cheap SEATs. Aisle gets an armrest and some extra legroom, window gets an armrest and a view and the middle gets two armrests.
Them's the rules.
You forgot Bentley, which is an expensive Audi.We all know that VWs are cheap Audis, SEATs are cheap VWs and Skodas are cheap SEATs. Aisle gets an armrest and some extra legroom, window gets an armrest and a view and the middle gets two armrests.

I'm a happy Cupra owner.
I don't care much about brand.
Don't get criticism on the interior, it's a lot better than previous Seats and ergonomically sound, more so than other VAG siblings. It even has chrome edges but doesn't have the shiny black plastic of the Golf. Really don't get it, certainly wouldn't pay many thousand more for, in my eyes, very similar interiors. And S class or Panamera, that is something else, but those cars are heavy like f-word.
I personally think the, Spanish, exterior styling is much sharper and better looking than the Golf which I find very boring. Especially the estate ST compared to the Golf estate.
They are the sporty brand, and imho are actually the best set up, VW is more mainstream, Audi is even more disconnected. Not as sharp as an FRS or Type R, the remaining broad ability with daily comfort remains part of the appeal.
Usually it's, for the hardware provided - the platform, the cheapest way into the VAG parts bin. And the lightest. Stuff I do care about, contrary to what I imagine other people may think of the badge I chose. In my case it was 5k less than the not comparable Golf that comes with Haldex and auto box, things I didn't want. The closest Audi equivalent would be the S3 Sedan, again auto box and haldex 4wd, and a real 15k more. Where does that money go? Other than a nicer sounding exhaust and a bit better interior quality, 5k tops, I wouldn't really know.
This Cupra R though does make me wonder, only makes sense if you like that styling, rims, colours and equipment. I really don't, I prefer the stylish, anonymous look, I even debadged mine.
I summary, for me it was a win win win win on the above points. But it's my first Seat and I'm not brand loyal at all, when time comes to buy the next, I'll just go with whatever fits our situation and fullfills my basic demands for driver enjoyment best.
Don't come here with your well-reasoned, unbiased, fact based opinions. This thread is for complaining about VAG, Seat, the price of new cars, as well as the integrity and quality of articles on PH.I don't care much about brand.

This Cupra R doesn't appeal to me either so I just won't buy one.

Beat me to it, I was just about to rip him apart for mentioning the Focus RS. This Cupra R doesn't appeal to me either so I just won't buy one.

Yes, but it's a useful proxy / summary to seeing how brands are performing.VW ~ €0.43k / unit

My bad with the maths, shouldn't have done my maths on the phone on the train!
