Goodness, that's as badly written as the pick-up video was badly prepared for. I'm sure McLaren will think twice before lending you boys a car again.
Bit harsh.
Harsh? Without constructive feedback, i call that plain rude.

I've enjoyed the story and can see me opting for the GT one day.
That's fair criticism. I assumed that anybody who'd read the original piece would struggle with the prose. To add some science to my feedback, I ran the text through a web-site that measures the readability using formal measures. I also did the same with a recent fleet article on a Caterham. The results are pretty clear and back-up my initial feedback. Given the awful pick-up video, I was hoping PH would spend more effort on the closing review. Even just to reflect commitment from McLaren. I'm not suggesting PH should give a good review for a imperfect car. Just a thorough review that is a pleasure to read.

I’ve no idea what you you are on about.
Have you fed any of what you have written through a readability test.

I have, and I get greens - but I don't need to because I'm not trying to make a living in journalism. You see the subtle difference there?

We're talking about cars here, not particle physics.
Well, as long as you're happy we're all good. Thread closed.

How often do people use the seat switches? You set yours and your wife’s settings in the memory and never touch them. I much prefer them bring out of sight than where they are on my Mercedes. Yes I agree they could be a bit easier to use, perhaps move them to the outside of the seat base instead. But I haven’t touched mine since I made the original adjustments.

My GT has been faultless since I bought it in July. 5,500 smiles so far. I had a reverse lamp problem, but that turned out to be caused by the person who took the splitter off to change my exhaust, so not McLarens fault.

I think this particular Pistonheads/Autocar has an odd spec. There are two things you must have, front lift and extended gearshift paddles (which means basic interior carbon pack). Everything else is fluff.

My GT has a bit of fluff which will make it stand out when it comes to resale time. I added a Larini exhaust so it sounds perfect now too. Total cost around the same as the car in this article.

Just add an Alp or two:

That's a rather lovely spec. I've always thought I'd have it in a dark colour (black, green, purple), but that combo works well! I'm not sure I'd want to sell it!

No, no need to close it, everyone else is happy with it.

It's just you that seems to have a problem, and there's a simple answer to that.
Agreed. Pitty his feasibility test didn't tell him that he comes across as having a proper chip on his shoulder about something.

Targ, interesting comment, why do you rate the extended paddles as a must have?

I suggest you are somewhat over thinking this ......

I'd agree, lift and CF interior components are the only critical options.

Standard paddles are short and plastic, not particularly tactile or engaging and feel more like switches.

As soon as you see the standard paddles and use the extended ones you will realise they are needed. STD ones simply too short/small.

The Exige 430 would destroy this as a useable fun car and is a damn sight cheaper.

Had the standards on my 650S and they seemed fine. Got a 720S inbound and specced the interior carbon but didn't bother with extended paddles.
May have to revisit that if there's still time.

Point missed. This is a GT car, It is quiet at 100mph on the autobahn, with cruise control on and averages over 30mpg (like mine has over the last 5,000 miles), Aircon working perfectly once you hit the inevitable traffic jam and scarey fast when you’re in the mood. Oh, and the doors 😜

The Exige is an awesome car, but not he same proposition.

Actually this chap has a lot more answers. Unfortunately for me, Mc's rarely feature. But we all like different things etc.

I don't want to cruise quietly and don't give a monkeys about doors so they don't hold any appeal for me. And as for air con working perfectly - I had a 20 year old Merc which I could say that about..

Therefore it’s a fatuous comparison and a pointless thread intervention surely ?

Try sitting in a car with them at the dealer. STD ones work of course, but the extended ones are much easier to ‘find’ and thus use.

Why should I intervene merely to tell fans why is it God''s gift to mankind?

They are a fine car in a Honda NSX/Audi R8 way. And I assume being British holds an appeal to some. Or maybe they like to think they are driving an F1 car. Or perhaps showing kids how the doors work gives them an inner glow.

No doubt good rounder cars if that's what you want and like.
