i have not been very well for a few months so i have not felt well enough to drive. all i can say it feels like my right arm has been cut off.
my mum is 80 and now has to walk to the doctors or beg my sister. whereas if my parents asked me to take them anywhere , i just did it.
the other thing is public transport is rubbish. i have been using the bus for two weeks. a journey that takes me 15 minutes in the car , is taking 1.5 to 2 hours. and there was a lot of walking either end.
having walked every for two weeks , i am exhausted.

I think you are very wise to decide for yourself when the time has come. I have no doubt that this decision will come for me in the next ten years ,perhaps progressively. I still do track days at 69 and drive cars appropriate for that purpose and have zero health problems.
However, in only ten years’ time I will be 79 assuming no unforeseen earlier departure.
I will go back to the Ring next year with a new car as is my habit. However I am unsure if that will be my final visit.
As for street driving I will certainly stop when I feel that my driving is no longer properly safe. I will miss the very long distance runs I do now Which are often 800 miles in a day, but in the city I get little pleasure from driving and will use Uber a lot more. I do that now anyway to avoid the endless hunt for parking !
I am sure that many of us on PH will be following you. Of course, there is a whole generation of young urban people with many who will not drive at all! I know quite a few.

Why don't you treat yourself to a console / PC and a cool rig with seat and steering wheel? I am fortunate enough to race for real, but I recently had a go in a proper setup of Forza / Gran Turismo / and Project Cars and it still gets the competitive juices flowing. You also can't get done for speeding or get angry at traffic!

Thank you for the kind words and offers everyone.
I guess the only real decision I have to make is “when”?
I’m lucky enough not to have to drive much, I don’t have to go anywhere and when I do I’m with the Wife anyway.
I’ve not driven for over a week but my licence doesn’t expire for another 12 months or so (3 year licence now, I’m “only” 51!) . The mobility lease ends early next year.
I’ll probably only drive the Cougar on odd occasions when I know it’s suitable and I feel well. I’d rather fade away than have an emotional last trip smile
The idea of a driving simulator is a really bad one as I have a 13 year old son and I’d never, ever, get a go on it and we’d see him even less than we do now hehe
