Marques have to move on and try new things from time to time. And they can always raid the memory box again if things don’t work.
Personally I think the grille shape is perfectly Aston.
The materials used are different that’s all.

That's already preferable for me - even if you have lost the front parking sensors! Try one with the classic grille maybe and how about the trademark strake? smile

Bit harsh but it's worth it for the comedy element.

Also, I don't understand why they have felt the need to spell out "ASTON MARTIN" on the rear bumper beneath the Aston Martin wings......... do they think that anyone will be under the impression that it's anything else?

I must admit I wasn't sure until I saw this photo- it looks so much better with a number plate.

Apparently it's difficult to tell apart from an MX5 so anything that confirms what it is is essential wink

The defining characteristic of an Aston is the distinctive grille, from the. DB4 to present day it’s as essential as the kidney grilles on a BMW.

And they’ve chucked it away.

Grille still looks distinctive to me, the shape...and prominence
Just in the wrong place in relation to the rest of the car...
lower the lights or lift the grille...

I dont think they have, the shape is still there, its just a lot more modern and agressive like a Vulcan. And lets not forget the V12 Vantage Mesh Grill, i liked that apart from the "bra straps".

BMW's piggy snout grills are so ugly imo, they look like Mr Beans hairy nostrils grafted on the front laugh I do think the new Z4 & 8 series concepts are better though thumbup

Its a lot easier to read than the tiny badge, esp for someone whos following but doesnt know what it is, say for example in China, if it makes 10 extra sales a year its worth it. Also its cool branding, like PORSCHE on the back, doesnt need to be there, but it looks good.

I like it because ASTON MARTIN looks awesome thumbup

Ho Hum. What a conundrum!... Actually I think all at Aston Martin will be pleased with the reaction. As Oscasr Wilde once remarked, "The only thing that is worse than being talked about, is not being talked about."

I was lucky enough to have been given a preview of this car a month ago as a potential customer. In truth I had already chosen something else so I went along hoping that I would either like the car but not too much, or that I would love it and have to cancel the car I had already ordered. As many of us do whether I am a customer or not, I care about the success of the marque. Its part of my DNA...

In the end I was where i expected to be, I like it but not enough to lust after it.

The positives. In the metal this car has MASSIVE prescence. Its the same width as an Audi R8.

Lets not forget that in the last years Aston Martin has been criticised for its cars all looking the same. Andy Palmer famously said that he wanted a car that his Mum could recognise! Well we certainly have that car now and it is still recognisably an Aston Martin, so maybe that is a job well done?

A lot of people seem to be harking back to the previous AMV8V; a very pretty car. But presumable AM want to grow sales so maybe thats not going to happen by fishing in the same place?

The Original AM Vantage or certainly the post DBS6, Oscar India V8 interpretation was a bombastic car and somewhat at odds with the "regular AMV8" it was based on. Maybe this is more of a return to those halcyon days.

After all if you want a pretty GT there is always the DB11 now.

On the whole, I like most of the exterior, find the front end treatment a bit challenging (but it's growing on me) and I think the interior is a bit fussy, especially as everyone else is moving towards a more "virtual cockpit approach"

No one outside AML has driven one yet. But it has a world class powertrain and a Matt Becker developed chassis.

I'm sure it will be outstanding on the road...

I don't want one (right now) but I do admire it and I hope it does well. I think it will!

Well, the styling. Generally I like it.
But am I the only one who could throw up looking at the steering wheel?
Aston has a knack for the most awkward steering wheel shapes on the planet. Couldn't stand the weird Vanquish wheel. And now they have mastered making it more ugly.
For christ's sake what is wrong with a normal round steering wheel?

The answer to a question no-one has asked...
But it's a detail.

Like the Aston Martin script on the boot... another naff detail that simply copies Porsche and Ferrari.
The gaping overbite frog mouth is a bigger problem for me, all the more because the rest of it is really quite gorgeous.
That and it's not an NA Aston powerplant.
Young uns want fresh new stuff for fresh new-stuffs' sake though....so it's not I car I want.

I'd be happier if when I saw one I still lusted after it though...like a DBS....
