Only £10k depreciation since bought too so man maths for buying new would have stacked up.
Didn't Clarkson own one of these too?
Yes he did for a few years, not sure of the VRN or chassis number though of the 25.Didn't Clarkson own one of these too?
Simon Furlonger have sold K1 CLK (the one Clarkson drove in TG) in the past year or so (appears it is back up for sale! https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
They have/had a black one for sale as well, I remember seeing one of the silver ones with 91k on or something stupid though (yes not a typo 90,000 miles!)

From one of Matt Farah's videos I learned that not only does Chris Harris own one of these, he apparently paid a small fortune to someone to sort-out the gearshifts (generally the car's weakest link - the auto MB used at that point was a bit of a slushbox - certainly compared to a modern box)
So you might want to budget another 5-figure-sum to get that sorted too ;0
Chris didn't pay, the previous owner did. Mods are from a company called MKB.So you might want to budget another 5-figure-sum to get that sorted too ;0
Going to get all ‘Halfords’ here but wasn’t this available with an aero kit (raised rear spoiler on pylons, twin aero winglets on each side of the front bumper etc)?
If so my inner boy-racer would prevail and that would be the one for me (but without the rear seat delete as I have kids)
I was only looking at (the very few) ads for these on monday and non had the aero kit. But as a bonus it means I wasn’t tempted to see how much coinage may have dropped down the back of the settee...

great car, waiting for one of the three white UK cars to come up for sale and I'll possibly take the plunge. A similar mileage CSL would be similar money and this is rarer and better IMO.
Small typo in the article - the first Black Series was the SLK55 not SL55.
There are 2 uk white cars not 3.Small typo in the article - the first Black Series was the SLK55 not SL55.

I think the later C63 Black had an optional aero kit, this one didn't.If so my inner boy-racer would prevail and that would be the one for me (but without the rear seat delete as I have kids)

There was an aero kit for the CLK Black, but it was very unusual to see it, I don't think it was available for UK cars but not 100% sure. I have seen it on a couple of German cars.
Here's mine. I also owned a CSL. Quite different cars. CSL is more nimble, CLK is heavier, more muscular, like a pissed off dragon that's always trying to kill you. Gearbox is actually good if you drive it in auto, it has an uncanny ability to be in just the right gear even on the track. The CLK is very, very different to the C63 Black. The former is more muscle car, the latter more sports car.

Almost correct , Chris Harris bought my car after I'd sorted the gearbox . It has closer to 600hp too now , I miss that car . Sideways at will .So you might want to budget another 5-figure-sum to get that sorted too ;0

Would you be able to summarise what MKB did to make the gearbox sweeter?
I went to amg direct (the performance studio)and they were not able to help . Then I tried HWA the dtm guys and it was someone there that sent me to MKB . Apparently there were ex amg and hwa engineers . They took my car for several months .They changed the software and made a "small mechanical change" to the gearbox . Getting the ecu's to talk to each other was a nightmare (she would go into limp mode on track ) but they did it several months later . The amazing thing was they didn't charge me any extra for the time .
I put manifolds and other bits on the car as she was being completely re tuned anyway and it turned into a lunatic nearly 600hp drift beast .
I thought the car was perfect but on track days (wet at spa actually) dropping down a gear before pouhon for example threw the car out of shape and from then my search for a blipping gearbox started .
Once modified , I had the feeling however that the auto function wasn't as good as it was before (possibly in my head) but the manual was transformed and the noise was incredible as well as the shirts being faster .
As for Chris Harris , I bought his green car through my dear friend richard tuthill and a V12 Vantage s 7 speed manual as a daily (the black was my daily ) , strangely very similar cars in many ways (too much power , under tyred , great balance , beautiful , non American muscle cars/hooligans ). I actually prefer the aston but I am looking for a very low mileage black series (I've had 2 but keep going back ).
They really are special cars , much more fun that the later c63 black and way way more bespoke .

Summary I've only ever seen one CLK63 Black, in Dubai, being driven by a young local lad. He wasn't holding back and it sounded better than any other road car I remember. I'm so tempted by one, but they are a little more than I can justify spending (my wife would be pissed...but its probably worth it). Worst thing is, they are only going to get further out of reach!
