Every single one of them. I have never encountered any type of auto that didn't make me desperately unhappy. I'd sooner give up driving completely than manual gearboxes.

I’ve two of the cars mentioned so far - M5 (F10) and Vantage - both are auto and I wouldn’t want either in manual form

That’s not to say I wouldn’t want them to be offered as manuals for those who preferred them that way
F10 M5 available as a manual in North America - as was the E60. Reviews of both are lukewarm at best.

Will be sticking with my old E39 for some time to come it appears. That said, there are times when it would suit being an auto much more. hehe

While I really like the XK (the only auto I've ever driven) I think I'd be a heck of a lot closer to loving it with a manual. The car has really driven home just how much I prefer stirring cogs and the massive grin on my face when I get the chance to take the old Rover out. I just can't get away with using the flappy paddles to change gear, there's just not the same connection there. I do occasionally use them when going into roundabouts though as it's always in too high a gear, changing down halfway across when I want to accelerate out (should be interesting if that happens on a snow/slush covered roundabout).

On a more general basis, pretty much any car.

Lots of mentions of AMG Mercedes. I think a manual AMG would ruin the car - the whole point of an AMG is a big heavyweight effortless (to drive) distance shrinking missile.

If you drive an AMG you want to be able to plant the right foot and be hurled at the horizon, not faff about with prodding pedals and yanking a big lever in the middle of the car about unnecessarily every few seconds. ***shudder***

Well that is entirely the point, a lot of people would like the option of one with more interaction.

I disagree! laugh

I think some AMGs really suit being an auto, but I think Mercedes missed massive potential by doing manual versions of their AMG cars.

Look at how many BMWs you see on track days, at the 'ring etc.

There are absolutely loads of them.

I think Mercedes did cars with better engines, brakes and quite often suspension, but they are nearly all auto.

I'd love to take a manual C36 or C43 AMG and use it on track, but they need a manual box!

Oh, and a couple of people must have really wanted a manual AMG when this came up for auction.

One of a handful to have the manual box, needing restoration/recommissioning and selling for more than the auto equivalent.

With DCT. As a dealer, we wouldn't even order manuals for stock because you could never sell them! Factory order and £5k deposit please, in case you cancel and we're stuck with a car that's very hard to shift (no pun intended).

The combined marketing and engineering nous of Mercedes-AMG clearly feel otherwise and are confident in their offering.

What used buyers further down the depreciation curve may prefer is utterly irrelevant, if new buyers disagree - as has been the case with M3/M5 estates. Every time, people moan they're not available. Yet historically, when they have been available they've barely sold in three figures and ALPINA who do offer estates with comparable performance sell in single digits (although saloons and coupes tend to only manage a few dozen, their cabrios do better in the UK) - they've taken the exclusively auto for the UK marketing choice too...

Currently spec’ing an Audi A4 Quattro Avant for Mrs Get and the new puppy, and no manual available unless I get a diesel. Poor.

My BMW beard is twitching... pretty sure the CS was exclusively a manual. It was the CSL that was auto (SMG?) only.

I remember at the time it seemed my favourite of the range - an M3+ if you like. I seriously looked into one a few years back but caught the caterham bug instead.

I agree with your point, 99.9% of new car buyers seem to want autos, and it is further down the line where the used buyer wants a manual.

I sold my C36 AMG because I thought it was a bit rubbish with the auto box.

I have the correct manual box, clutch and pedal box to do a conversion, just haven't been in the right place at the right time to buy a cheap enough C36, ideally with a broken gearbox wink

I have A C43 estate and E55 and think both really suit the auto box, but I'd love a hot rod C55 manual for blasting about in.

I keep looking for a manual 280 V6, as the box, clutch and pedal box will fit the V8, so a conversion will be possible using factory parts.

I'd also really like an Alpina, either E36 or E46 based, but it would have to be a manual, despite what the original owners specified.

I'm pleased that is an easily achieved conversion, and will do one eventually.

Unfortunately I don't think i'd ever be in a position to spec my own Alpina or AMG from new, and I don't think i'd ever want to take the depreciation hit anyway.

Not read the thread to see if it’s mentioned but the FFRR. The auto is great for 99% of life but when towing I would prefer it to be a manual. I know it has the ability to change/lock it in gears but just prefer towing in a manual.

C5 RS6 especially as the auto box that came with it was problematic.

I believe the CS was manual or SMG.

I know new buyers want automatic or dct boxes and I also know that wanting does not make it so, but I do wish for a RWD manual V8 in a small saloon shape....

Didnt realise they did the manual for the F10 - interesting. Like I said it would be good to offer the option to suit all tastes but I wouldn’t be tempted to swap probably down to the type of driving I do and how good the auto box is. When I do fancy a bit of a blast I really enjoy the paddle shifts in M mode?

The good thing is there are different modes and hence options depending on what mood you are in which just simply is the case with a manual - you can’t tell me you ‘enjoy’ sitting in traffic constantly operating the clutch for example? I know the opposite is true on a good open road but like I say just not for me in this particular car.

I dont get why anyone could be bothered stirring a gearbox these days as the modern day autos are brilliant now.

Is that door an auto opening door or do we have to reach out and grab a metal lever that many germ ridden people have touched already? wink

As for the suggestion that a FFRR would be better for towing as a manual I couldn't disagree more. Nothing worse than the loss of momentum when you change gear while trying to accelerate with a heavy trailer.
