The rear of the old car looked bulbous and clumsy. IMHO, despite looking a bit Panamera/A7, I think the rear looks so much more resolved now.

I know it is being compared to the DB11, but since forever, Astons and Bentleys have been very different propositions. I think this new CGT nails is better than the DB11 which, in certain colour combinations (the fussy ones, with a stark contrast between a very light body and black roof) can look gopping, as much as it can look great in more subtle grey/silver hues.

It's great that there is a new DB and CGT to go at it.
The Bentley looks a huge improvement in looks over it's predecessor and might just look awesome in the flesh in the right colour.

I think my opinion of the DB11 has been permanently marred by my first sighting of one (AM test car at the 'Ring) which had a black roof with.... 1970's bathroom suite blue below. Looked truly horrible, worse than it sounds.

In fairness, I've since seen two grey/silver DB11's close up and they really look good.

I do like the way a 635bhp 200+mph car that does 0-62mph in 3.7sec is described as "mildly sporty".

Looks a lovely place to be.

The donkey and transmission, then, are where it still needs a bit of work.

hehe Who proof reads this? I can't even think of a word that autocorrect would have put in place of donkey.

I think they did mean donkey, as a humerous substitution for engine. I have more of a problem with the over use of commas.

Out of Crewe, the Bentley reminds you that it's a pretty all consuming GT car. The ride is good, in the middle setting of three.

Silly me, I read it as if the issue was with the transmission.

It would have been funnier with the donkey.

Bentley Manager: “Right lads we’ve got two weeks to prep this car and get it out the door, here’s the list of stuff to do.

Hands over hastily typed list.

Worker: But Sir…

Manager: Enough complaining, JFDI.

Car turns up complete with donkey in the passenger seat at the press day.

Manager: WFT is that!

Worker: It was 4th on the list; I tried to say.

Manager: Bloody typo, just remove it

Worker: He’s very stubborn, he won’t come out.

Worker 2: The press tester is right outside waiting.

Manager: fk-it. Just tell him it’s not finished yet.

Hmmm.

Am i the only one who thinks the previous model was better looking?

This is nice...and i personally do like the rear lights....but....it looks...heavy....lumpy....dumpy. The grille is a bit too big and square.

(the concept though, was FAB, was it the XP9?)

I'm sure in the metal it will be impressive....and it's hardly horrible....but....i dont know.

I think the current one is a more cohesive design.

You can see the kinda...generic Porsche-ish structure to the interior too, although im sure it's a lovely place to be.

100% would have a DB11 over this.

DB11 is best part of 400kg lighter, and will wipe the floor with the GT dynamically. I know the DB11 looks are subjective, but to my eyes, and in the metal, it looks fabulous, wheras this just looks like a re-hash of the old one. That side profile does nothing for it, makes it look frumpy and rides too high.

The V8 of these will be the one to own, as it will help to bring that weight distribution back towards what it should be.
And what about those who want a more comfy GT car? This'll be better than the DB11, I'm sure.

I want to like it, I really do, but the back end is just too fussy, kind of like a 70s Mustang. Somehow it seems spoiled style wise. Also not having a real auto, well it just isn’t really Bentley.

The engineering development team at Crewe is very international, but the overriding character is most definitely British.

Interesting that even with the big W12 engine, the transmission still clunks at low speed. My Panamera (2) 4 E-Hybrid does this as well. For these big heavy (2300kg) cars, I am not sure that a ZF 8 speed with a torque converter (with lock up) would not have been a better and smoother answer than an 8 speed PDK. Interestingly, the diesel V8 Panamera I had on loan, while the Vehicle Tracking System was being sorted out on mine, had much more noticeable transmission clunks, as you slowed to a halt or accelerated away from stopped, so the 134 HP electric motor (on the flywheel) of my Hybrid, is obviously doing a good job on smoothing the transmission torque.

And Rolls seem to have lost their "Britishness"

Prefer the old shape GT re reffering to the 60,s Continental profile.
New shape is Audi A7 coupe esq ,ie more Audi less Bentley.
Understand the whole platform sharing thingy - that’s all out of sight ,how ever the dual clutch box - sounds like a Lamborghini £3 K clutch / flywheel job —- a few years down the line or 40 K miles what ever comes 1st .
A modern slush box would be better in terms of running costs @ year 5 +

It’s not a track car or Sunday blast car .

Exactly, so why the dual clutch box instead of an auto?
