Lovely thing.

Friend had a v8 zt, went well and other than some strange problem with the parking brake on the rear wheels it was trouble free.

but 4 speeds? That really is archaic!
the mkII Avensis 2.0 petrol was available with a 4-speed auto, built until 2008!
that takes courage
What’s wrong with 4 on the floor?

Seriously if it has the power then you don’t need countless gear ratios.

Did this Rover have overdrive?

Whilst undoubtedly a lovely example, the fact that £10k buys a LOT of very serious V8 metal, and that the engine/gearbox on this are pretty fundamentally flawed, mean that it's ridiculously overpriced.

£3.5k for me.

Nah it wasn't ever meant to run longitudenal engines like a beemer. They had considerable problems in getting the Mustang V8 and it's prop shaft/final drive to fit.

I'd love one of these, but I'd have to drive it wearing a medieval helmet so I didn't catch a glimpse of that interior.

Awesome. I’ve always wanted one, even over the MG version. The Rover might be slower but it always seemed cooler to me.

I think the money is a little strong but not unrealistic. It’s one of the rarest cars on the road, and they have a great story.

I’ve only ever seen 1 in he flesh.

At a campsite it burbled up and he family pitched up the tent. Lovely sounding motor even if it only has 4 on the floor

No they didn't.

Hint - can you find a 2.5 diesel MG?

Stop saying 'four on the floor'.

Four on the floor = floor-mounted, four speed stick shift.

‘Considerable problems’ Just a few! New tunnel, rear floor, sub frames, electrical systems, rear brakes, HVAC...

This gearbox ruins the whole thing. As a manual (MG) it works, as an auto it’s just a burbling engine burning fuel at an alarming rate for no obvious forward progress.

Sorry but it’s pointless.

I had a Jaguar XJ12, one of the last ones with a 6 litre V12 with 320bhp and well over 500NM of torque from 1500RPM to not far off the redline. I think we can all agree this is a wildly superior engine to this wheezing 280bhp thing. It also had a four speed automatic gearbox, and it was barely enough. On the 4 litre I6, closer in character to this engine, it was a massive handicap.

It's excuse was that it was from 1995, what is MGRs excuse for this heap?

Was this really a 4-speed auto? Wow.
Rovers were, MGs were manual.

The Audibeardy grille on Rovers wasn't even unique to the v8s - they used it on the FWD LWB 75s, too.

That's just madness. (And they can't even be bothered to spell 'connoisseur' correctly.)

On the subject of the 'Audi-style' grill, I've got a feeling that Rover actually did it first (may be wrong though).

I'd have it for something interesting to tool about in. It's still a pleasant design.
I'd prefer something in a more cosy Rover colour though. And the suspension seems to be set to Off-road on this one.

Another 4 cylinders and 1.4 litres for an extra 40bhp, and god knows how much extra weight and size? "Wildly superior" are not the words that immediately spring to mind.
