RE: Lamborghini Urus launched

You are probably very right, and with AMG getting better and better as a drivers option, Audi have the market to themselves. Smart move perhaps.
Could very well be. I know that for my morning commute, my S5 is the place to be. Not once have I even wanted to explore the handling of the S5 (not necessarily a good thing!) but it's really comfortable (the seats are brilliant on the 2017 cars) and effortless to commute in. It's a bit of a blunderbuss when you want it to be, but really you only use the power like that on the odd occasion - overtaking, for example. The CGTS was a pretty compromised commuter car (not terrible by the way - if I had to use it every day, it would be more than capable) but it handled like a dream.
And as if to segue back to topic, that's why I think I am not a huge fan of uber-performance SUVs - because it's not really what I personally want an SUV for. Fine for those who do (and if someone handed me the keys to an RRS SVR I would be exceptionally happy!) but for my money I would be happy with adequate performance from an SUV. Note the word 'adequate'.

Except this has issue has been addressed for years (better and an awful lot cheaper) with an RS4, or if you really need the space an RS6. Doubt anyone sensible will be putting kids in an Urus, they'd have the interior trashed in a couple of weeks. Or if you fancy something leftfield then this is only 2/3rds the price of a Urus, far more practical, 4WD, and if you had it without the stickers, and in a sensible colour, it's an awful lot cooler:

That is an awful lot cooler! A souped up van...? Seriously? You’ve said if a tall SUV hits you in your family mystery car it’ll destroy it. This van could do the same... Those same kids who do ruin interiors would ruin the interior of the van, an RS6 or anything else you feel you have to recommend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB37QIZfgEI

Guess the only thing the Urus has going for it is that it looks more 'showy' and I guess that's why it appeals more to folks who want other folk to know they've earned (or borrowed) some money. If you're quietly confident in yourself though and don't feel the need to show off then the more subtle van would be perfect.
Way back in this thread you deemed a sports car to be ok as it's fulfils what a sports car is supposed to be. So a Ferrari, Porsche or a 'proper' Lambo would be ok but... but they are impractical, ultimately a play thing, serving no real purpose, are 'showy' and I guess that's why they appeal more to folks who want other folk to know they've earned (or borrowed) some money. If you're quietly confident in yourself though and don't feel the need to show off then the more subtle Merc E Class/BMW 5 series would be perfect? Or better still a Mondeo/Passat/Insignia and forgo the big gated 6 bed detached house or 3 bed semi. Why bother to work hard at all?
Why worry about what other people spend their money on and make nasty statements/presumptions about the kind of people they are?

But what about your 'selfish choice' and 'blocking the view ahead for other road users' arguments?
Well if you're going to block the view ahead you may as well do because of good reason - i.e. driving a large vehicle for practicality, rather than with a semi-practical vehicle that's really just a tool to show off.DonkeyApple said:
It’s a bright yellow, unecasssrily expensive van that really doesn’t do much to compete with an estate car or SUV.
Minus the yellow and it competes perfectly - far more practical, same footprint as an A6, 4x4, very fast, high driving position - what more do you want? Ah okay, I get you, not showy enough maybe? Doesn't have a Lamborghini badge perhaps?HighwayStar said:
So people who'd buy a Urus are buying it to show their wealth, they are wedged up. Not because they actually like it?
For what other reason would they buy it? The no-doubt exorbitant depreciation perhaps? The thing is uglier than the aftermath of a fistfight at a Donald Trump convention. HighwayStar said:

Well if you buy them for that then yes, but they are also a very good sports car should you choose to buy one because you like driving.Andy20vt said:

it just looks like another suv, with a lambo badge on it. The cayenne turbo seems a better proposition.
What other SUV does it look like? The Spruce goose said:

As in jelly mould, take the lambo batch of and could be any new suv. Does it really look like a lambo, it just looks too safe, and not really exciting enough. And yes, they could have gone more outlandish, but it has to have a nod of practicality.
