Be good to experience how it compares to Lotus’s to date.
Much easier to get into than an Elise more practical, quieter and much easier to live with as a daily (not driven one that recently or an Exige though). Obviously steering of the A110 is nowhere near as good. The A110 is more agile, but as a track day car I'd choose a Lotus. My wife wouldn't be keen to drive an Elise or Exige (she only drove my Elise under duress) and that needs to be factored in for me.

Actually I'd say an Evora 400 is (price apart) more of a match. The Evora has better steering too, rides as well, is just as civilised, and as a drivers car ultimately more capable than the Alpine - and more fun than a Cayman.

But the bottom line for me (albeit on the basis of a short drive) is that the Alpine is likely to be more fun more of the time than any of the opposition - while being a perfectly sensible everyday proposition. Fortunately my wife travels light (and being short there is quite a bit of space behind the seats) so the luggage space will be enough for a decent holidya.

Just a pity, as many are finding, that the buying experience is nothing like as impressive as the driving one. But as Sir says I'd stick with it.

I can only say stick with it as it really is a different experience.
I've been toying with it a while as well. Take the Alpine PE or get back into a Porsche? Head says Porsche as it is what it is. Heart says the Alpine will be more fun....
If you got the safe Porsche option wouldn't you always wonder what the Alpine was like ?

Surely if the alpine is really limited then buy it and if you don't get on with it sell it then get the porsche.

Thanks. Have owned multiple Lotus incl Evora 400 and currently an Exige 380. Must admit I have been wavering for an Evora 410 to join the Exige as down to mid 60’s and I’m comfortable with known depreciation. Oh well will have to wait a bit longer then due to some mystic DVLA force shield around the midlands dealer rolleyes

I think head should say Alpine - if you don't like it you can almost certainly sell it at a profit - you can say that about Porsche GT and Spyder models, but not the regular models.

Hi All,

Just thought I would introduce myself, been reading the thread for a few days. Just ordered an Alpine a110 premier in Alpine Blue.

A few weeks ago I decided the time was right to buy myself a fun car, this started when I was watching a review of the M2 competition, looked good but I wanted something a bit more sporty. Still gutted I never got a 1M years ago, always went sensible with 123d msport etc.

This led me to looking at the Alpine and a Caymen S, the more and more I read about the Alpine the more I was convinced that this was the car for me, Porsche was nice but was edging up to 62k when I specced it how I wanted it plus the Alpine was a bit more unique.

My mates dad also used to have a Alpine in his garage 20 years ago, I have fond memories of this car.

Anyway, went into the Winchester Alpine dealer and instantly fell in love with it, I was gutted I couldn't get a premier in alpine blue.

Long story short, sales chap had a word with manager and they informed me they would be getting another premier in as an unregistered showroom car that won't go out on test drives, it will be available to me once they get their pure showroom cars with delivery mileage.

Really wanted it so went back on Saturday morning and put the deposit down, should be ready early Jan/Feb ...can't wait.

This will be a pure fun weekend car for me as I have the family skoda superb 280 which is used for dogs and kids. Fast in a straight line but rolls a bit into corners.

You lucky chap - we've had to wait 18 months for ours.

Interesting that you have chosen it as a weekend fun car (it certainly is FUN). Did you consider a Lotus? Just curious - I'm a Lotus fan but discounted the Elise/Exige as too impractical as an every day car.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, reason I went for the Alpine is it looks really fun to drive without being too hardcore.

Two weeks ago I wasn't even thinking about buying one until I thought to myself ,I've never had a really nice sporty car , I love cars and motorsports and just thought if I don't buy it now I never will.

Absolutely love the looks on the Alpine and the philosophy behind it is fantastic i.e. build a light chassis Instead of just throwing power at it like the TT RS for example.

For everyone that has received theirs? What's your view on it since owning? As good as you hoped?

just wondering how this works under the new emmission regs as there was talk that all the PE cars had to be registered before the changeover at the end of August? Does that mean yours will be pre-registered or will it be a model which complies with the new regulation?

I’m presuming they will register the showroom car and let him have that in due course. Very fortunate to be able to do that as others on this forum have said that they have had to wait for a pure / legende.

I think only a handful of deliveries have taken place and I do wonder if they will all be registered in time. No idea what will happen if they are not...

I'm pretty sure that it will have to be pre-registered - unless they fail to deliver all RHD PEs before the end of the month. I believe they have no intention to test RHD PEs to the WLTP standard.

That said they won't have delivered all LHD PEs by August 31st, so they will have to test the LHD PE to WLTP (don't suppose they intended to do that either) I'm not sure why they would have to test both RHD and LHD versions of the same car to WLTP - but presumably they must.

I find that rather annoying. He's basically been able to queue jump those of us that have have been waiting patiently. The entire sales operation (not to mention the marketing) has been a shambles so I shouldn't be surprised.

Hi All,

Sorry if some of you are upset, my aim was not to come into the forum to upset people, just to say hi and speak to people that also have a passion for the car.

As I said in my earlier posts, I went in to have a look. Really liked the Premiere edition but knew they were sold out, was looking at going for a Pure and spec it upto get as close to the Premiere as I could.

Just in general conversation with the sales chap I mentioned I really love the Premiere and I was gutted they were sold out. He then spoke to the manager and said they had just been allocated a blue and black one as new showroom cars that will be coming in later in the year.

He mentioned they could be available if I acted quickly but had to get clearance ,i think it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time.

For the sales chap , it's an out of the blue sale that he can close instantly so I can see why he would go for it.

I asked if it would be unregistered with me being the first owner and he told me it would be unregistered with only delivery mileage. The car won't be available for me until Jan/Feb time, maybe slightly later.

We shall see how it all pans out in time, I will keep the forum updated.

Don’t worry I don’t think you’ve upset us all!
I think SP’s point would be true if you managed to get a car before we do but as I see it you’ll get a car in Jan/feb once your car has sat in the showroom for a while. I hope that is the case because as SP has said the process has not been very slick so far. The whole thing seems a bit last-minute. Dealerships aren’t even finished.

In your position, I'm sure most of us would have done the same - so no personal criticism.

That said there are a buyers who have missed out on the PE - and put their names down to take (as they thought) second chance offers on PEs where buyers chose to cancel their reservation. They might well feel miffed that they didn't get first option.

Perhaps, to some of us, who might have liked to have at least been offered some Porsche limited edition models (but weren't), it feels a bit like de ja vu. I'd like Alpine to be a real competitor to Porsche - but only on technical grounds - not the rest of the BS ones.

Well my local dealer still can’t register their demo car 2 weeks after receiving it. I note that DVLA systems are down from tomorrow 3pm until Monday 6am. Assume they have big problems that need resolving . Can’t see these cars being registered by the end of the month at this rate.

So is that a loophole - how can the dealer register their showroom car to a customer after the end of the month, but they have to register current customer cars this month - DVLA systems allowing....

You personally haven't upset me at all. My irritation is solely with Martins and Renault Alpine as a whole.
