IMO the test will be whether they can pick up a significant proportion of the small part of Porsche's market share which is made up from driving/car enthusiasts.
Do you have any data/ MI on the proportion of driving/car enthusiasts ? How do you define a driving/car enthusiasts ? Does that include road driving only owners wink ? Does it matter ?

It would be interesting to know (but hardly statistically significant) what those on here who have placed deposits are thinking of replacing.
Mine's a 981S

I'm in.

I sold my CGTS already but it wasn't entirely based on what's going on with the Alpine. I posed this question to Catchpole actually and he thinks the CGTS in manual shades it. Only just....

Not replacing anything but will sit beside my Lotus Exige 380, which I think will make a nice combo. Golf GTD is the daily driver/ family car, so suppose I could use the Alpine instead when it’s just me in the car. Think it will alll come down to how special the car feels.

Always liked the original A110 so when this car was launched it was a case of wanting to experience owning one. Have a soft spot for light sports car, as now on my 8th Lotus , plus done the mad track cars.

Renault sales globally are back on the up and its Alpine rebirth is a halo model to get customers and employees re-excited about the group brand.

The A110 is going to harm Alfa (4C) and Lotus more than Porsche.

It'll pull in a few TT customers too.
Hope you are right but somehow doubt it. The Audi isn't really a serious driver's car , but does attract because of the quality of its interiory. Surely buyers would have to stand their priorities on their heads to buy an Alpine - a Cayman would surely be more attractive.
I really don't see why the Alpine won't do rather well. Far more practical day to day proposition than an Elise, far more interesting than the rather dull Porkers we have these days. Looks great. Brand awareness, Fiat brought back Abarth. Even more obscure than Alpine.

Renault-Nissan is now the worlds largest car manufacturer by volume.

Presumably only because they are now counting Vauxhall/Opel cars in their numbers.

Opel were bought by PSA not Renault/Nissan.

However, Renault don't own a controlling share of Nissan so they're not really the same company; it's more an alliance (which also includes Mitsubishi). The group also has a weaker agreement with Daimler-Benz (hence the Smart/Twingo).

Renault DO have a controlling share in Nissan as that was the main condition for bailing out the then loss making Nissan which is why Renault President Carlos Ghosn also made himself President of Nissan and has run both companies for over a decade.

I thought they owned forty something percent?

It's the voting shares that count not just what percentage of general shares you own;) They own 43.5% of the voting shares which is more than enough to control the company as the remaining 374,938 shareholders are not going to vote en-mass against them and Nissan owns 15% of Renault but they are non voting shares so the Alliance is run from Paris.

True I guess, depends on how they're set up.

Well I got the call from the dealer on Saturday- nearly didnt answer it as it was number withheld! Got my reservation in for a premier edition beginning of last year.

I'm no.6 on their list (St Albans - not really near me but the nearest!)
Demo cars arriving June/July with deliveries expected August.

They want me to travel to them sometime Feb (presumably to sign up and drop more cash) - would much rather do this remotely.

Am hoping the car is as good as expected. Reviews seem good.

Did you select them on the app? There was an app update indicating that to progress the order it was now time to select a dealer to supply the car.
