I'm not too sure, I think it looks like a cross between a GT86 and a Cayman. I'm out.

If I had the cash I would have this very near the top of list to test drive to buy!

I don't understand how people can think it needs more power and an LSD without actually driving it.
I would suggest that because they are things that proper petrolheads are supposed to say, they throw them about willy-nilly with scant regard for the import of what they're actually saying. It's broadly like the heel and toe nonsense for everyday driving - the incessant need to appear to be more knowledgeable than the next man.

Love the fact that it's so light. Hate that there's NO MANUAL! furious A car aimed squarely at enthusiasts, and there's no manual? Really? Do we really think that's any kind of business plan? Go to all that trouble, only to alienate yourself from over 50% of customers.

What do they mean, not enough money??? This is Renault/Nissan! They could do it ten times over and not even feel it. Porsche are a MUCH smaller company and make no such excuses.

ISTR the Clio 200 was also auto. I had a Clio 182, and it was a lovely little toy, even with only 5 speeds. If it had been auto, I wouldn't have bothered.

Don't know we're car manufacturers get there prices from. Half the country's on zero hours contracts minimum wage. When Brexit kicks in will be another exscuse to screw the masses put prices up etc. On the other hand if I wanted to spend 40k on a car it wouldn't be a Renault. Plenty of slightly used options I'd rather have m5 m4 m3 c63amg Nissan GT-R etc etc. 40k upwards on Renault Ho Ho Ho

Not really. I think it's more about the fact it has a cooking engine from a warm hatch elsewhere in their range.

It's being sold on its rally heritage at a press junket in Monte Carlo. Such a special car needs a 'special' engine to add to its mystique and desirability.

That doesn't necessarily mean big power (and I agree with you that it's not a car for massive power), just more power than you find elsewhere in say a Megane or at least the same as they were threatening to put in that mental Clio. 280bhp would be perfect.

It's not about competing with an A45, just differentiating from a Megane.
I may have missed something but I dont think we're making the same point. The complaint is about power and the yours is about the engine.

Haha, no mention of the fact it does loud DSG farts on up changes, and given the recent criticism on that other thread, no-one will be remotely interested.

Love the looks, don't care it's an auto, don't care about the"lack of power" (let's be honest it sounds sprightly enough anyway)... the killer for me would be the boring sounding mill. At the risk of having folk after me with burning torches and pitchforks I've never heard a genuinely good sounding 4 pot

I think this car is tres cool

Interior is great, love the French tricolour touches

It’s the anti-Porsche I guess. A real left field choice

99% of public wouldn’t know what it was or how much it costs which would appeal to many

I bet if you asked public to guess price it would range from 10k to 100k

It’s not perfect for sure (a small high reviving v6 be perfect but they sadly don’t exist in 2017)but super cool weird looking thing - I’m glad it exists

I think the Renault will out drive the lot of them.

Come to think of it, I wonder if the auto only issue is the reason why Caterham pulled out.

If you'd rather have any of them than this, you are clearly not remotely the target market. They are all worthy cars, but I can't imagine a set of criteria which would put them in the same shortlist as the Alpine.

Let me add another one clap . A lot of people here going on about stuff while others actually spend some of their spare time on track days with whatever "unpure" car they have but at least explore their limits (both the cars' and the drivers') and use them to the full.

In Europe, a 718 costs 55k Euros, a 718S 68k Euros and the premiere A110 costs 58.5k. So whilst it's probably wishful thinking on my part as a depositer with a launch edition car coming, if they price it similarly here and peg it to Porsche pricing, it will work out at £46k for a premiere edition car (here 718 costs £43k, 718S £52k). If they do a straight exchange rate, then it works out at nearer £52k. In reality, I guess it will be somewhere inbetween at c £48-49k

It's also worth bearing in mind there are literally no options on the premiere cars. That means the base (pure) model must surely come in at around £40k.

It's certainly frustrating still not knowing what my car will cost, but hopefully that will be cleared up early in the new year

But it's also worth pointing out that Alpine have said from the start they see this as a car for people who already have several other cars, including some significantly more expensive, more than a car for someone looking to buy it as their only car/DD.On that basis, it makes more sense IMO than a base Cayman and such buyers will not be so worried about track times/ prestige /etc. I liken it in some ways to the Biposto Abarth a friend of mine runs alongside some real exotica - it's quirky, fun but not truly justifiable financially. The question is whether the market is large enough in the UK for people buying it as a fun 3rd/4th car - I suspect not unfortunately.
Congratulations on getting in on a launch edition car. I considered it too but found something else I liked and didn't want to wait. Now I don't have any room for another car but if I ever do I will add an Alpine. I don't like the looks at all but as a fun road car it seems so perfect I just wouldn't care. I can't think of anything that could come close at anywhere near the price. I really, really want one.

Is it too shameful to admit I have a deposit for one as well ;-)

To be fair I think I was quite drunk at the time and I had forgotten about it until a month ago!

Like it. Looks good, great concept, execution looks good. Will be interesting to see if it is durable or not.

Shame about the lack of a manual though.

Stop it. I am jealous. When I knew the reviews were a few days out, I said to the missus that I hope there's something wrong with the bloody thing. Apparently not though. Could there have been a more well thought out car in recent years?

I need a self-imposed internet ban. Missus gave me one of those looks when I grumbled today that Rightmove is crap because it doesn't have a filter by garage size :-)

Brilliant smile

I know people who ordered stuff on amazon when drunk, completely forgot about them until they got a ‘surprise’ present to themselves in the post biggrin

But ordering a car - brilliant - was a good decision I think too tongue out

Looks boring, Opportunity lost. If you're going to buy one, it will be because it's a left-field choice. Problem is, it looks like one.

Out of interest, what do you think looks better in this sector?
