Sorry but the Gumpert looks almost beautiful in comparison with this....

This Senna just seems to be an ultimate tracked focused 720S, but for silly money, hence ultimate series badge.

Where does this leave a 720S LT variant (assuming there will be one along they way at some point)? What will the USP for a 720LT be?
Whereas the 675LT was the ultimate track variant of the 650S (intial build limited to 500 as well) the 720LT won't be as it will surely now have to be a compromise between the 720S and Senna.

Chaps, you have got to think like a billionaire, not a millionaire...you already have all the pretty HyperCars cars, it really doesn't matter what it looks like, this is your track car, for turning up a Spa, with a full support team and racing driver and then being about able to exploit 7/10th of the permanent and wipe the floor with everything else (10/10ths is for the racing driver when you are a passenger)...this is not your only car you trailer to Brans Hatch behind your jeep Cherokee...
Wrong. A billionaire will take a merc project 1 or Aston Valkyrie or Ferrari fxxk EVO etc before being seen dead in this hound of a thing.
A billionaire with track support, racing driver & unlimited funds who enjoys driving on track as absolutely quickly as possible can buy an actual, real, race car, both from this era and from previous eras. This car will presumably primarily be driven at low speeds round Knightsbridge or sit in a garage alongside 37 other cars having no miles put on it.

All 500 Senna’s sold and the last car was auctioned last night and sold for £2m.
That’s £1.25m over list price.

You don’t seem to know much about this market.

I couldnt pin point what was wrong with it, but its the wheelbase, its got a too small wheelbase for the body of the car, it needs the front wheels pushing half a foot forward. And a more classy wing. (Like the 12C GT wings)

Then it would be fixed, can anyone photoshop that?

What makes it really turgid is that in all likelihood, with a jutting chin like that, to drive it at all in public will require the nose lift 'up' all the time!
I'm fully on board for engineering prowess and killer stats, but did anyone at Woking notice what Porsche managed to do with a 918? beat or match the very best, with more weight and luxury ...did they notice the Veyron/Chiron - the same...and yet both still created something that doesn't make you recoil at the sight of it.
Macca's engineer have literally spaffed over the drawing board, with their eyes closed in ecstasy over dreams of power to weight, plenums and active this and that, and when they opened their eyes and looked at the mess they'd made..... thought it would all be ok because they could call it Senna.
Enzo, Veyron, Chiron, Centenario, all a little challenging here and there to look at.... all completely forgiven. This isn't just the ugliest super/hyper car this for me ranks right up there with a Pontiac Aztek for getting the styling cataclysmically wrong.
But look! see-through doors! woop de fking do....
imagine actually owning this...actually driving it amongst the great unwashed... how much of a nob would you really feel..."Its the bestest most quickest thing ever!"......."go on then...go above 40mph.."........"well no, I have to watch the splitter etc...I can't actually USE the power on these roads with kerbs and traffic calming"...."so you drive round slowly to car shows....looking like THAT...?"....."ermm..."
It's embarrassing.

675LT must surely have just shot up in the desirability stakes...

Some pictures from the design mood room at McLaren to go alongside 'The Homer'

I initially saw the pictures and without really looking thought "Good for McLaren, really grown some balls and made something a bit mental".

Skipped the article and read the comments and thought people were just being harsh. Then saw that profile shot and thought "My god, no".

Went back and actually looked at the pictures, and I really can't fathom how they feel it's acceptable. It's all very well and good saying it's form over function and all about the pursuit of speed, but in 6 months they'll make a faster one with more stickers on it, and then you're just left with this steaming pile of carbon fibre eye rape whose sole raison d'etre and justification for being such an insult to the seeing population has evaporated.

The fact that from certain angles it actually looks passable does make me suspect that the photographer is possibly the most talented man in Woking hehe

I just don't understand the shape of the car. I mean, the 720S already had a ridiculous beak on it, but this is even more insane. They've taken the cab forward stance of a mid engined car, but then also got the long front end of a front engined car.
The engine being behind the driver tends to make a car rear-heavy. Pushing the front wheels back like this puts more weight over them because they're closer to the middle, so closer to 50/50.

Also, the big challenge when you get into serious aero is specifically *front* downforce - it's relatively easy to stick the tail to the ground with a diffuser and a wing, but there aren't so many tricks to get the front wheels pinned to the ground. A long front overhang gives you more space to have an expanding airflow (and hence low pressure and downforce) ahead of the front wheels.

So the long snout does make sense - but as someone posted earlier, the Glickenhaus is a great example of how to implement serious aero while still looking good.

Precisely

All the PH sages out in force as ever.

That people don’t like the looks I get.

That people think Mclaren have lost the plot, that these won’t sell and that they don’t understand the point of this car though I don’t.

These will be cars owned, and sometimes actually used, by people with many cars at their disposal. For it’s intended purpose as a road legal track machine I have little doubt it will be epic.

We're in the realms here though whereby a certain group of marques could literally make anything in a limited number and they'd all sell before the public got wind.....I'm not seeing anything to celebrate there if I'm honest.
All that energy and focus on engineering, and they'll sit in temp-controlled garages for the rest of their days.
I'd wager less than 5% will turn a wheel for it's intended purpose....
The mass majority represent "look at my wad" mentality...."yes I ave one of every car worth over a million dollar...." ..."well done sir, which is your favourite to drive?".....

"drive?....what?"

Not quite "sold out". More like they have 500 people with an option to buy one, let's see how many follow through.

One sale at a charity auction, does not determine the market price.
That auction was very much staged to give the impression of instant overs as well I think.

It's a fairly fickle market for cars at that price range Mclaren are pricing the P15 I think and some moderate weight loss and lots of aero (that has major issue with the looks of the car) apart, I'm not sure how Mclaren are easily justifying that price.

Whilst I totally agree it's fking ugly....you're comment is saying that it simply won't sell? Pretty sure they'll sell out.
Oh don’t worry - it’s sold out. The flipper market will no doubt go into overdrive passing this car around from owner to owner whilst each tries to cream some profit. But unlike the other hyper cars, I expect this one to get far less owner usage. It is truly pointless. A warmed up parts bin special.

Remember, you are a billionaire, not a lottery millionaire...you already have or had the Aston, Ferrari etc, why wouldn't you now want to try out the Mclaren version, especially as you have turned a profit on the others which while unnecessary is a nice to have...

Can I see some examples of ugly things that have become beautiful just because time passes?
I'm fairly confident ugly stays ugly in the same way beautiful is always beautiful... but, I'm always up for a challenge and not big enough to admit when I'm wrong...

Hold on a minute, imagine this forum being back in the day when Ferrari had done the incredibly beautiful 288GTO and then then more brutal but still lovely F40 ..... and then brought out the F50 and Enzo ! Both those were challenging compared to what had gone on before. If either turned up a a PH meet nowadays you would be all over them. Same for this Mclaren.

For me it's one of those designs that in the flesh you would be gobsmacked with and have to spend a lot of time walking around taking in all the clever details. It does look like a Gumpert and also a bit like a Caparo T1 for front wheel arch shot and the exhaust, well Pagani will be grumpy. But it is form over function.

The thing is you cannot see all that when driving, it is the driving that matters, it is a P1 without the heavy batteries, it will be no doubt epic, cannot wait to see the video's. It will then set a Nurburgring time that cannot be mentioned but is an unmentionable time quicker than the last time biggrin

I love the overhead start button etc, Lambo put a red switch over the start button to make it appear like you are in a plane, Mclaren make you feel like the captain of a jet ever time you start it up impressing your passenger. Pretty cool .....

I doubt the 500 people who bought them will be unhappy. Well, until the Spyder version comes out wink The most track focused convertible ever. Only to be sold to people not wearing toupees which could get sucked into the air intake.

All the grumpy buggers on here, if you saw it in the flesh you'd be like "Can I have a go, can I have a go, what will it do Mister?" You know you would angel
