There are some absolutely epic details there. Very, very close to greatness.
The design is about as far from greatness as it is possible to be.

Classic design is pure, simple and sensual. When form and function are combined and the result is fresh, instant and timeless. By definition, it doesn't depend on the latest and ephemeral fashion.

This is massively and overly fussy, with the subtlety of a rock in the face. It relies on shock value, and current technology and aero to make its impact. It will date like a 70s wedge or a tower block.

McL have been careful not to use a side shot in their publicity blurb, and to show it front quarter angle with the doors up. Who needs to do that when they have a design that touches greatness?

I would love for McL to be churning out real objects of desire, not clickbait looks for teenagers. Unfortunately their "brand value" seems to be "tech" and right now this means delving into the rather obvious Halfords parts bin of huge diffusers, scoops and wings. If it gets them one step closer to something half way interesting, however, then maybe it is a good thing. I would certainly like to see them kick Ferrari's complacent backside.

Anyway, just my 2p.

I bet out of the 500 there's a lot who are sad about what they've bought.

The sad fact is that this is just so much more resolved while still looking more purposeful in a pretty group C type way.

I think people buying £750k cars aren’t sad that often.

this had better be the best car ever made to bear that name
I’m sure you’ve seen the pics so you already know the answer to that one!

Design - ugliest car if the century (so far)
Technology - warmed up 720 gear. Basic V8. No hybrid or, alternatively, V12
Aero - lots of it, but nothing we haven’t seen before
Innovations - zero or any note. In fact a step back compared to P1

Overall, Ferrari must be laughing soooooo hard at this.

I’m sure it’s incredible to drive, but it’s a travesty to put the Senna name on something that ugly. It’s a disaster. Like a sixth-form design student has had a really bad day

Looks like it's been designed in Lego.

How can the article quote power to weight based on a dry weight? Without oil, coolant and fuel surely its more like 0bhp/ton?
How can it be 0bhp/tonne when it has 800bhp? Even if it weighs 10 tonnes it's still 80bhp/tonne confused

A very hideous looking car though. Very dramatic, unfortunately not for the right reasons!!

Doesn’t deserve the name - but neither would any car - and my god it’s ugly.

Like a few others have already mentioned, I’m rather sad that this car bears that name.

TBH if the P1 had been christened The Senna, that would have been miles more fitting.

This really does feel like a bit of a poor taste joke.

How much power does your car make without any fluids?

Touche

Journos and manufacturers been quoting it for years like that. Suspect with fluids it'd weigh around another 100kgs or so....?

I rather like it. Just like I loved integrates with their ugly wheel arches and extreme roof spoilers, or mitsubishi starions etc etc.

Maybe I'm alone, or maybe people will see it for what it is in a decade or so.

The name however, not a fan. Senna was cool, suave and had finesse, not a hulking brute like this.

I actually quite like the look of it but for a final judgement I'll need to see in the flesh. When I first saw pictures of the Enzo I thought it was pug ugly, especially the side windows but then in the flesh I got it. This does have more than a whiff of the Gumpert about it though. I'd love see what it is going to like traversing a speed bump. Given the size of that enormous conk, I would think that the hydraulic rams to lift it must be the ones fitted to the sides of your average JCB.

Given the importance that name has to the brand I am quite surprised they actually put Sennas name on it. I would guess that the Foundation really needed a big cheque at the moment. But if they are putting names of people who built the company what the chances of a McLaren Ron?

To me the most important thing is what this leaked from the McLaren Ball or was it always going to be released on a Sunday morning? If someone did share on Facebook, I would imagine the chances of them ever getting a foot inside Woking again are going to be very slim indeed.

I think it looks epic, not ptetty, but epic all the same. Different aesthetics for different reasons, but still cool.
Also think it will look pretty in the flesh.
Then again I like Jackson Pollack. And some cars have that similar emotional impact, don’t all have to be Miuras

When the dust settles on the ugliness... people will realize the Senna is almost the same weight as an Alpine A110 -- but has 3 x more power... driving

Do people really care? The Miura was sold as a fast car, but it's not still one of the most desirable cars on the planet because it's fast. McLaren are missing the point right now.

Chaps, you have got to think like a billionaire, not a millionaire...you already have all the pretty HyperCars cars, it really doesn't matter what it looks like, this is your track car, for turning up a Spa, with a full support team and racing driver and then being about able to exploit 7/10th of the permanent and wipe the floor with everything else (10/10ths is for the racing driver when you are a passenger)...this is not your only car you trailer to Brans Hatch behind your jeep Cherokee...

If your first statement were true, this would be more powerful than the P1, no?

Whilst the 2nd statement can be true for many people, it isn't for everyone. If it is, then you better tell McLaren that this will be a total sales flop.
