In this case does BMW offer a remap for the car?
Well it's called an M2...
Oh come on, surely you can see the difference in the two?
The engine has substantial changes for example:

Okay, maybe that was a bad example. And comparing an M235 and M2 would be closer but ..
Subtle changes aside, if a manufacturer or approved tuner builds a new version (let's call it an 'N' version for our resident Hyundai-loving acquaintance) they don't just add on the cost of 1. doing-a-remap 2. shiny bits that improve the car 3. shiny bits for car reviews to rave about - there's the whole issue of warranties and how it will affect reliability of the whole car. if that's two or three years then that will be a substantial cost - adding 30% more horsepower is going to affect the whole drivetrain not just the engine. Do I think £2k is steep for the performance package? On it's own I don't think it's good value but part of a complete package I would go for it. I would also guess that selling the car will be easier than if you did your own bespoke mods.

I payed £300 for my N54 335i DCT Re-map... I could get brand new stage 2 Turbos and a Re-map for the price of Birds single re-map... please tell me that was a typo???

Doesn't seem to be much desire for PH to respond to the the comments in this thread. Which is disappointing, but expected as the whole series isn't much more than a veiled advert for Birds.

I've done some research and heard a rumour.

The Birds package is not just a remap. They have bred a genetically engineered hamster which is fed into the turbo to spin it faster. Due to the extreme temperatures involved our little furry friend has an asbestos coating applied.

All this biotech does not come cheap. They are also developing a lower lag version where they move our little friends resting place closer to the wheel for improved response.

At first this sounded ridiculous, but set against paying two and a half grand for a remap on a 1 series, this may be the more likely option?

Excellent - I knew their had to be some logical reason behind it all

Timing corrections on this platform are generally caused by either high intake temps or lack of octane. Adding a larger intercooler should easily liberate another 25 or so bhp.
Low mileage mint m135i with JB4 turned up to the top and high capacity high quality intercooler and high flow cat didn't make the figures of these claimed "remap" only.

Amusing that 20 years later (think back to RSturbo tuners claiming 200bhp from a "chip") the same crap is being talked.

Just look at the size of the turbine housing versus the size of the turbine blades. The engine was never designed to make much or take much boost.

Don't think i don't think the car is ace. It is and the package is very fast and torquey. Just the idea that you wind up the boost with no mods and make 400 ACTUAL BHP is unrealistic having seen it tested with no agenda.

I thought that the N55 responded better to a remap than that. The N54 equipped 135i & 335i seem to be a much better platform for tuning.
Adding a catless downpipe and larger intercooler will increase a healthy N55 to over 400 hp at the wheels

These are definitely the modern JZ engine

A work colleague owned the 140 version. This is an old dyno. He got it to 449 a bit after this but the torque...wow

And also at a 1/3rd of the price mentioned on the op
